The story follows Uhm Tae Bong (played by CNBLUE’s Jung Yong Hwa), a top actor who is famous for romance dramas but has one strict rule: he never films kissing scenes. His life gets turned upside down when he meets Oh Hae Ra (Hong Seung Hee), a mysterious woman who, after an accident, becomes convinced she is the female lead of his drama. The new teaser shows Hae Ra stepping in as his self-appointed bodyguard, declaring she would risk her life to protect him.

What The New Teaser Shows

The third teaser for Oh! My Guard opens by explaining Uhm Tae Bong’s unusual “rule.” Reporters ask if he will have any kissing scenes in his next project, and the scene immediately cuts to him shouting “Cut!” the moment his face touches his co-star’s. He firmly states that “kissing scenes are absolutely out of the question.”

The teaser then shifts to Oh Hae Ra, who is fully convinced she is Cha Hong Doo, the female lead of Uhm Tae Bong’s first starring drama, The Crown Prince’s Bodyguard. She volunteers to become his secret bodyguard and tells him, “I’d even risk my life to protect you.” Later, she boldly confesses her feelings, saying, “I really like you!” Uhm Tae Bong also begins to soften, admitting, “I honestly don’t know why I’m acting like this either.”

The Story Behind The Show

Oh! My Guard is a romantic comedy written by Byun Sang-soon and directed by Yoon Jong-ho and Lee Seung-hoon. Yoon Jong-ho is known for directing Lovely Runner, while Lee Seung-hoon directed Doctor Shin. The series is produced by PeopleStory Company and Syn & Studio.

Jung Yong Hwa plays Uhm Tae Bong, a Hallyu star and melodrama actor who refuses to film on-screen kissing. Hong Seung Hee plays Oh Hae Ra, who after an accident believes she is Cha Hong Doo. Hong Seung Hee will show two very different sides of her character, switching between the timid and easily frightened Oh Hae Ra and the bold, fearless Cha Hong Doo.

The supporting cast includes Lee Yi-kyung as Han Jeong Woo, Han Chae-ah, and Park You-na as Song Na Ri, an idol-turned-actress who develops feelings for Uhm Tae Bong.

“The idea of spending time with an artist you love and even personally protecting them was interesting. As I read the script, I focused on understanding what Uhm Tae Bong is feeling in each situation and making sure those emotions flow naturally from one scene to the next.” — Jung Yong Hwa

The drama wrapped up filming in the first half of 2022 but remained unreleased for more than four years while its broadcasting platform was being finalized. The long wait finally ended when Lifetime secured the broadcast slot.

A Unique Take On Fan Culture

The show’s premise blends the line between drama and reality. Oh Hae Ra is a devoted fan of Uhm Tae Bong who has only ever watched him on TV. After her accident, her world and his collide in a way that neither of them expects. The production team described the drama as bringing to life the fantasy of “What if I became the female lead of a drama and met the male lead I had only ever watched on screen in real life?”

The main posters for the drama highlight this playful concept, showing Uhm Tae Bong inside a television screen while Oh Hae Ra stands outside, hugging the TV with a blissful smile. The tagline reads, “Her very strange(?) world has come to me.”
