The wait for Fauda fans is finally over. Lior Raz, the star and co-creator of the Israeli action series, has officially confirmed when the fifth season will drop on Netflix. The new season is scheduled to premiere globally on September 8, 2026. Raz shared the news through a video posted on social media, putting an end to months of speculation about the show’s return.
This announcement comes after a long gap. The fourth season of Fauda streamed on Netflix back in January 2023. Since then, the world has seen major changes, and the show’s creators decided to completely change the story to reflect those events. The new season will pick up two years after the October 7, 2023 attacks. The series, which first premiered in 2015, has become one of Netflix’s most popular international action dramas. It follows an Israeli counter-terrorism unit and the personal struggles of its members.
The Script Was Completely Rewritten After October 7
The creators of Fauda had already written a script for Season 5. But everything changed after October 7, 2023. Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff, the show’s co-creators, made the difficult decision to scrap the original plan and start over. They felt they could not ignore the biggest event to happen in the region in decades.
“We understood that a show that deals with reality in the Middle East, in Israel, cannot disconnect itself from the biggest event that happened here in the last, I would say, 75, 80 years. You cannot ignore that.”
The new storyline focuses on the aftermath of the attacks. Raz explained that the goal was not to simply show what happened, but to place their characters inside those real-life situations. The creators wanted to be accurate to real events while also showing how their characters would react in such unpredictable times. This creative choice added a layer of realism and depth to the new season.
New Cast Members Join for Season 5
Lior Raz will return as the lead character, Doron Kavillio. He is joined by a mix of familiar faces and new additions. Returning cast members include Itzik Cohen as Captain Ayub, Doron Ben-David as Steve, Yaakov Zada Daniel as Eli, and Lucy Ayoub as Maya.
French actress Mélanie Laurent joins the cast for this season. Hakim Djaziri is also part of the new lineup. The season consists of 11 episodes. Production took place in both Israel and Hungary. The show was commissioned by the Israeli network Yes TV and will stream globally on Netflix after its run in Israel.
The Story Moves to Marseille and Deals with Revenge
The plot of Season 5 takes the action to Marseille, France. The story begins when an old friend goes on an unauthorized revenge mission in the French city. This mission pulls Doron into a dangerous undercover operation. The season explores the theme of revenge, which the creators call tha’r, a term meaning blood revenge.
Avi Issacharoff shared that they even thought about naming the season Fauda Tha’r because revenge plays such a big part in the story. The creators wanted to ask difficult questions about whether revenge is worth the cost. Issacharoff explained that the season asks if getting revenge actually changes anything or makes things better.
“This is a TV show, not reality. But we thought that there is still a story here to be told. We wanted to ask very tough questions to people all over the world, not only in Israel. Is the revenge worth it? Is continuing this very endless cycle of bloodshed worth it? Where is it taking you? I think these are the questions that are at the heart of this season.”
Doron Faces His Inner Demons
The new season shows the characters dealing with the effects of trauma. Lior Raz said that the season focuses on “broken warriors” rather than soldiers always ready for battle. In the first episode, viewers see Doron trying to get help for his PTSD by meeting a therapist. He tries to process what happened to him, but life gets in the way, and he does not have time to focus on healing.
Raz reflected on the show’s beginnings, noting that he wanted to show the mental price people pay for their actions. He mentioned that before October 7, they thought they understood trauma, but they did not realize how severe it could become. This season digs deeper into that pain and struggle, showing characters who are trying to survive both physically and emotionally.
