The latest episode of ‘Grand Blue Dreaming’ Season 3 has arrived, and it delivers exactly what the series is known for — ridiculous misunderstandings, awkward romantic tension, and characters who somehow make every situation worse. Episode 6, which aired on August 10, 2026, continues the Palau arc and puts Kohei Imamura in the spotlight as he attempts to play matchmaker for Aina Yoshiwara and Iori Kitahara.
What starts as a simple plan to help Aina confess her feelings quickly spirals into complete disaster. Kohei’s lack of subtlety, combined with Iori’s incredible denseness and a series of bizarre misunderstandings, turns this episode into one of the funniest of the season. The episode adapts Chapters 54 and 55 of the manga, bringing the source material’s chaotic humour to life.
Kohei Takes on the Role of Wingman
The episode begins with Kohei noticing something that Iori has completely missed. He realises that Aina has feelings for his friend and decides to help her get closer to him. On paper, this seems like a thoughtful gesture. But this is ‘Grand Blue Dreaming’ , and nothing ever goes according to plan.
Kohei’s idea of being a good wingman is about as subtle as everything else he does. Instead of quietly creating opportunities for the two of them, he makes Aina’s feelings painfully obvious whenever Iori is around. He starts dropping hints that practically announce her feelings to Iori. Aina is understandably horrified and flustered by how things are panning out.

Iori, meanwhile, remains spectacularly dense. He has no idea what is happening and cannot make sense of Kohei’s strange behaviour or Aina’s awkward reactions. The comedy comes from watching Kohei try so hard while failing at every step.
The ‘Blue Balls’ Misunderstanding Takes Over
Just when it seems like the episode cannot get any more chaotic, a conversation about men and women takes a completely unexpected turn. Aina and Chisa overhear something about the supposed dangers of sexual frustration and somehow become convinced that Iori and Kohei are suffering from what they understand as “blue balls”.
Neither girl seems to have a particularly strong grasp of male anatomy, but that does not stop them from taking the situation seriously. Their concern is genuinely real. They start believing that the boys could be in real physical danger if they do not find some way to deal with the problem.
This is where the episode’s central misunderstanding goes completely off the rails. Aina and Chisa genuinely believe Iori and Kohei are facing a life-threatening crisis. The episode’s official preview even describes it as: “Dying because their crotches explode”.
Instead of simply asking someone whether their understanding is correct, Aina and Chisa decide to act on what they believe. Their attempts to help are played entirely for comedy, but there is something surprisingly sweet underneath the stupidity. Both girls are genuinely worried that Iori and Kohei are suffering, and neither wants something terrible to happen to them.
Meanwhile, Iori and Kohei have absolutely no idea why the girls are suddenly looking at them with such sympathy. They accept the money they are given and use it to buy alcohol.
Maki Adds Another Layer of Confusion
Just when the misunderstanding seems impossible to escalate, Maki gets involved. She overhears enough of the conversation to reach her own completely incorrect conclusion. Because of a minor misunderstanding, she comes to believe that Iori and Kohei are romantically involved.
Her curiosity ends up causing another comedic moment. At this point, every character has their own version of what is happening. Aina and Chisa think the boys are dealing with some bizarre problem and are trying to give them space. Maki thinks they are a couple. And the boys have no idea what anyone is talking about.
The comedy comes from how seriously everyone takes their own misunderstanding while being completely wrong.
Aina and Chisa Share a Softer Moment
Beneath all the comedy, the episode also gives Aina and Chisa some meaningful moments together. Aina continues to feel insecure about Chisa’s relationship with Iori. Chisa, in turn, reveals that she also struggles with her own insecurities, particularly regarding her relationship with her mother.
Their conversation shows that the two girls actually admire certain qualities in each other. Aina sees things in Chisa that she wishes she had. These moments add depth to the characters and remind viewers that beneath all the ridiculous comedy, there are real people with real feelings.
Iori Spends Most of the Episode on the Sidelines
Interestingly, Iori spends most of the episode on the sidelines. Most of the focus is on Kohei, Aina, Chisa, and the trio carries the entire story. This shift in focus gives other characters room to shine and shows that ‘Grand Blue Dreaming’ can be just as funny without Iori at the centre of every scene.
One of the biggest highlights of the episode is Kohei taking up the task of helping Aina try to get closer to Iori. Viewers get to see how observant Kohei is beneath all the shenanigans. He figured out Aina’s feelings on his own. But understanding the situation and handling it properly are two very different things.
Palau Arc Continues
Episode 6 continues the Palau arc that began earlier in the season. The arc follows Iori and his friends as they travel to Palau to help out at the new branch of the diving shop Dolphin. Kohei initially refused to go abroad because he would not be able to watch his anime in real-time, but he eventually joined the trip.
The Palau setting provides a fresh backdrop for the series’ signature brand of comedy. The characters are away from their usual environment, which creates new opportunities for awkward situations and misunderstandings. The overseas setting also allows the series to explore new dynamics between the characters.
