The first concept art was shown during the Disney Entertainment Showcase presentation at D23. The artwork features Mr. Incredible wearing his superhero suit and lifting a massive object to save civilians. Other images show the entire Parr family, Frozone, and Edna Mode all dressed in their superhero gear.

Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack Become the Main Characters

Incredibles 3 shifts the focus away from the parents and puts the spotlight on the three kids. Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack will take on leading roles in this third installment. Pete Docter, chief creative officer of Pixar, told the D23 audience that “it’s the kids’ turn to take the spotlight”.

The story picks up just a few weeks after the events of Incredibles 2. Violet and Dash want to prove they are ready to become real superheroes. They have been sneaking out of the house at night to protect the city while keeping their activities hidden from their parents. This creates tension at home because Bob and Helen are not convinced their kids are ready.

Jack-Jack continues to grow and his powers are becoming more difficult to control. The family is struggling more than ever to contain the baby’s ever-changing abilities.

Brad Bird, who wrote all three Incredibles movies, confirmed there will be no time jump in the third film. Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack will remain at the same ages they were in the previous movie.

A New Villain and the Superhero League

A new supervillain will appear in Incredibles 3 with more power than the entire Parr family combined. The villain’s identity and abilities have not been fully revealed yet.

The movie takes place after superheroes have become legal again, which happened at the end of Incredibles 2. Since supers are now allowed to operate openly, a new organization called the SHL (Superhero League) has been formed. This team of corporate superheroes draws comparisons to groups like the Avengers and Justice League.

Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) is dealing with his own struggles in this new world. He is questioning his relevance now that superheroes are legal and society may have moved past him. The film also explores the idea that not all supers are good, even though they are now allowed to operate legally.

Returning Voice Cast and New Director

The main voice cast is coming back for Incredibles 3. Craig T. Nelson returns as Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible, Holly Hunter returns as Helen Parr/Elastigirl, Sarah Vowell returns as Violet, and Huck Milner returns as Dash. Samuel L. Jackson is also returning as Lucius Best/Frozone.

A significant change happened behind the scenes. Peter Sohn, who directed Elemental and The Good Dinosaur, will direct Incredibles 3. Brad Bird, who directed the first two films, remains involved as the writer and producer. Bird has been a mentor to Sohn, and Sohn was specifically chosen to carry the franchise forward.

The Franchise’s Massive Success

The Incredibles franchise has been a huge success for Pixar. The first movie came out in 2004 and won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Incredibles 2 arrived 14 years later in 2018 and became Pixar’s highest-grossing film worldwide at the time. It earned about $1.24 billion globally. Inside Out 2 surpassed it in 2024. The first two films have together earned roughly $1.87 billion worldwide.

Incredibles 3 was first announced at Disney’s D23 event in August 2024. The release date was confirmed in March 2026. The June 16, 2028 date had been held for an untitled Pixar project before being assigned to Incredibles 3.

Fans at D23 reacted with excitement to the news. Many expressed interest in seeing the kids take on bigger roles and were curious about the new villain. Some fans wondered why the studio did not age up the children for this installment.

Pixar described Incredibles 3 as “rounding out the trilogy” during the presentation. The film will be released in summer 2028, giving fans a decade-long wait since Incredibles 2 came out in 2018.
