Marvel Studios has officially announced the cast for its upcoming X-Men reboot. The announcement came during the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on August 14, 2026. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige took the stage with director Jake Schreier and revealed the first group of actors who will bring the beloved mutants to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The cast includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver will play the villainous Mr. Sinister. The untitled X-Men movie is scheduled for release on May 5, 2028.
The D23 Announcement That Shocked Fans
Kevin Feige capped off the D23 showcase with this major reveal. Sadie Sink, who already made her debut as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day last month, joined Schreier on stage. She told the crowd, “It is so wonderful to be here and to finally be able to talk about this character after months of speculation”.
Sink then welcomed her new co-stars to the stage. Kit Connor, known for Heartstopper, was confirmed as Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops. Christopher Abbott stepped into the role of Professor Charles Xavier. Samara Weaving was announced as Emma Frost. Inde Navarrette, who broke out in the horror hit Obsession, was revealed as Rogue. Broadway star Maya Boyd was confirmed as Storm.
The biggest surprise came when Adam Driver appeared via video message. Driver had been rumored for months to be joining the MCU. Many fans thought he would play Magneto. Instead, Driver revealed he would play Nathaniel Milbury, the human identity of the villain Mister Sinister.
“Kevin and I have been talking for years about maybe joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And I think we finally found the perfect film at the perfect time. So I’m very excited to be playing Mag…. Nope. Even better. Nathaniel Milbury. So I’ll be right here, waiting for everybody to show up.”
Driver’s playful tease about Magneto before revealing his actual role drew huge reactions from the audience.
Inde Navarrette Takes on the Role of Rogue
Inde Navarrette has been cast as Rogue, one of the most popular X-Men characters. Rogue’s mutant power allows her to absorb another person’s memories, abilities, and life energy through physical contact. This ability makes it dangerous for her to touch others, which has always been an important emotional part of her story.
Navarrette was previously rumored to be playing Mystique. However, Marvel confirmed she will play Rogue instead. This is a major career move for Navarrette, who gained recognition for her role in the horror film Obsession. She joins the MCU as part of a new generation of X-Men actors.
Christopher Abbott Becomes Professor Charles Xavier
Christopher Abbott will play Professor Charles Xavier, the founder and mentor of the X-Men. Professor X is one of Marvel’s most powerful telepaths. He uses his abilities to communicate with and influence minds. His mission is to protect mutants and promote peaceful coexistence between mutants and humans.
Abbott is a Tony-nominated actor who broke through on the TV series Girls. He has appeared in films like Wolfman and was nominated for a Tony Award for Death of a Salesman. Reports suggested Abbott had tested for the role and was a strong contender.
Professor X has been played by Sir Patrick Stewart in the original X-Men films and by James McAvoy in the prequel films. Stewart will also appear as Professor X in Avengers: Doomsday later this year before Abbott takes over the role in the X-Men reboot.
Adam Driver Brings Mr. Sinister to the MCU
Adam Driver will play Nathaniel Milbury, better known as Mister Sinister. Mr. Sinister is one of the most dangerous villains in X-Men comics. The character is known for his obsession with mutant genetics and experimentation.
Driver is famous for playing Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. He has been rumored for years to be joining the MCU. His casting as Mr. Sinister marks his official entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Feige added that there is more X-Men casting news to come. The newly revealed team is only the first group of actors joining the project.
Maya Boyd Makes Her Movie Debut as Storm
Maya Boyd will play Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm. Storm is one of the X-Men’s most powerful mutants. She can manipulate weather and atmospheric conditions, including wind, lightning, and storms.
Boyd is a 23-year-old Broadway actress. This will be her first major film role. She made her Broadway debut in Merrily We Roll Along while finishing her senior year at the University of Michigan. She later played the lead role of Juliet in & Juliet. Most recently, she appeared in the revival of August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.
Storm was previously played by Halle Berry in the original X-Men films and by Alexandra Shipp in X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. Boyd will bring a fresh take to the character in the MCU reboot.
