Disney’s D23 Expo delivered a packed panel dedicated entirely to Spider-Man, celebrating 65 years of the beloved web-slinger. The Saturday event at the Anaheim Convention Center featured Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, Spider-Man: Brand New Day actor Jacob Batalon, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man showrunner Jeff Trammell on stage. The panel delivered multiple major announcements across animation, comics, and streaming.
Although Tom Holland did not appear in person, he sent a video message to the audience. The 30-year-old actor spoke about what the character means to him.
“Playing Peter Parker is my dream, and getting to live that dream has been one of the greatest privileges of my career.”
Kevin Feige reflected on Spider-Man’s lasting appeal and what lies ahead for the franchise.
“There is so much story to tell, that even after 65 years, we’re just starting.”
Jacob Batalon, who plays Ned Leeds in the Spider-Man films, also shared his thoughts on being part of the franchise.
“Truly just, wherever the story takes us, we’re willing to follow. I feel like we all work with amazing people who make great things and just want to be a part of something you all love.”
The audience even started chanting “C-E-O” at Batalon during the panel, and he playfully ribbed Feige about getting his own show.
Milestone Comic Amazing Spider-Man #1000 Arrives in September
One of the biggest surprises from the panel was the announcement of Amazing Spider-Man #1000, a milestone comic issue arriving in September 2026. The issue will feature an interview between Tom Holland and director Destin Daniel Cretton.
The comic introduces a new villain named Ravage, described as Spider-Man’s first new fear-inducing formidable foe in decades. The issue also marks the comic book writing debut of Noah Hawley, the creator of the Fargo television series.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 Trailer Reveals Venom, Gwen Stacy, and New Villains
The panel showed a sneak peek of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2. The footage revealed several major developments for the Disney+ animated series.
Gwen Stacy and Eddie Brock will appear in the new season, both working for the Daily Bugle. The trailer showed Doctor Octopus attacking a gala and kidnapping Harry Osborn after a brief fight with Spider-Man. The teaser also showed Peter Parker getting exposed to the Venom symbiote, which transforms into the iconic black suit.
The Season 2 villain lineup is significantly larger than the first season. Alongside returning villains like Scorpion, Doctor Octopus, and Norman Osborn, the new season adds Rhino, The Lizard, and Eddie Brock (who will likely become Venom). The season will also feature Daredevil and Ghost-Spider.
Showrunner Jeff Trammell addressed the expanded villain roster.
“Season 1 was setting the board. Season 2, we get to play the game.”
Fans had complained that Season 1 relied too heavily on lesser-known villains like Unicorn and Butane. Season 2 appears to directly address that criticism by bringing in more classic Spider-Man foes.
The release date for Season 2 has been pushed back. Originally scheduled for fall 2026, the series will now premiere in January 2027. Season 1 holds a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and won an Emmy for Outstanding Voice Directing for an Animated Series.
