Debbie Meredith Married Frank Beard in 1982

Frank Beard and Debbie Meredith tied the knot on November 11, 1982. Their wedding came just four months after Beard’s divorce from his first wife, Catherine Alexander, which was finalized in July 1981. The couple stayed married for more than four decades until Beard’s death.

Unlike many spouses of rock stars, Debbie Meredith chose to stay out of the spotlight. She rarely gave interviews and kept her personal life away from public view. One of the few times she appeared publicly was at the 2002 wedding of ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill and actor Charleen “Chuck” McCrory. She served as the maid of honor while Beard was the best man.

Debbie Meredith Stood by Frank Beard During His Addiction Struggles

Frank Beard was open about his struggles with drugs. In the 2019 documentary ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band from Texas, he revealed that he spent his entire first paycheck of $72,000 on drugs. He started using heroin and LSD in the late 1970s.

“I never had enough money to be a proper addict until, you know, ’77, and then I accomplished that. The first time I ever did any drug at all was I injected LSD. And, boy, I liked it.”

Debbie Meredith stayed with him during his recovery. Beard entered a 30-day rehab program and completed a 12-step program. He later said:

“I just wanted to get sober. I wanted to be like people I admired that could sit home and watch TV and go to bed, and that was okay.”

Debbie never spoke publicly about those difficult years, but their long marriage showed her commitment to him.
