It began as a community-focused initiative in Mumbai’s Versova neighbourhood. The venture focused on locally produced food, handmade crafts, and workshops. She organised storytelling sessions for children and sold homemade products like bread, granola, jams, peanut butter, South Indian coffee, and different kinds of oils.
Over time, The Slow Local grew beyond the city. It eventually pulled her out of Mumbai altogether and into the countryside. She moved to the Sahyadri Hills in Maharashtra, about two hours from Pune.
Where Is Malini Sharma Now?
Today, Malini Sharma lives a life that is completely different from her Bollywood days. She runs a farmstay in the Sahyadri Hills surrounded by greenery. She grows her own vegetables and uses the produce from her farm to cook meals for her guests. The property is home to native trees like arjun, harad, kokum, palash, and shikakai. She keeps a section of the natural forest untouched and lovingly calls it their “own little forest”.
Apart from running the farmstay, she also works remotely as a relationship manager for a coffee company. Her social media presence is not under her celebrity name. She operates under the handle The Slow Local, where she shares glimpses of her life on the farm.

Malini Sharma’s story is not one of failure or regret. It is a story of choosing a different path. She had the momentum to build a long career in Bollywood.
