The period drama, based on James Herriot’s beloved books, has been a favorite since it first aired in 2020. The show follows a veterinary surgeon practicing in the rural community of Darrowby during the 1930s and 1940s. Season 7 moves the story forward to 1946, with World War II finally over and characters reuniting under one roof.

The series received a double renewal for Seasons 7 and 8 back in November 2025. This means fans have at least two more seasons to look forward to.

When Does Season 7 Premiere?

All Creatures Great and Small Season 7 has different premiere dates for UK and US audiences.

“There’s lots that connects them, which I think is really lovely.”

She also highlighted the special bond between Dorothy and Mrs. Hall:

“I think sometimes that gets overlooked because we want to focus on the romance, but they’ve been in the Wrens together, they’ve gone through a huge amount in terms of their journey as women through and past the war, so to go back and to give that more depth and to show more was really, really quite special.”

New Cast Member: Caolan McCarthy as Granville Bennett

A new face is joining the cast for Season 7. Caolan McCarthy will play Granville Bennett, a newly arrived rival vet who threatens the status quo in Darrowby.

McCarthy, who hails from Northern Ireland, is a professionally trained actor who graduated from RADA in 2015. He appeared in Kenneth Branagh’s Academy Award-winning film Belfast (2021) and performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Cyrano de Bergerac.

Beyond acting, McCarthy is also a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter. He received a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theatre Album after starring in a West End production of Amélie. He performs with his band, The Pines, and released his debut EP Paper and Stone in November 2023.

The synopsis describes Granville Bennett as a veterinarian who “threatens the status quo”. His arrival will bring new problems to Darrowby and challenge James’s position in the community.

What to Expect in Season 7

Season 7 picks up in 1946, with the war finally over. Skeldale House is full again and livelier than ever as characters reunite under one roof.

James is excited about new developments in veterinary medicine. However, the arrival of Granville Bennett threatens his status quo. The official synopsis teases:

“The world at large may be changing, but inside this slice of Yorkshire, the Dales will always offer the same perfect escapism. Packed with warmth, humour and community spirit, the series brings more heartwarming tales of people and animals alike.”

The season will also explore relationships further. Callum Woodhouse has teased that things might not stay smooth for Tristan and Charlotte. He told Radio Times:

“It’s not really a massive spoiler to say I’m still with Charlotte Beauvoir, who is really good for him and helps him with his mental health. She keeps him happy and I think he’s a little bit more content. But there’s only so long that that can last. So, things may be coming to change.”

The series consists of six episodes plus a Christmas Special. An eighth season has already been confirmed.
