Vir Das has done it again. The Indian comedian and actor has scored his third International Emmy nomination, this time for his Netflix stand-up special Vir Das: Fool Volume. The nomination was announced on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, placing Das in a league of his own as the only Indian performer to receive three International Emmy nods.
The nomination came in the Comedy category, where Fool Volume is competing against Argentina’s División Palermo Season 2, the UK’s Man vs Baby, and Spain’s Old Dog, New Tricks. Das shared the news on Instagram with a simple but emotional post: “Ummmmm ❤️ An International Emmy Nomination. Our third for India. This fool thanks you.”
A Journey That Started in 2021
Das’s relationship with the International Emmys goes back five years. His first nomination came in 2021 for his Netflix special Vir Das: For India, which competed in the Best Comedy category. That nod opened doors and showed him that Indian comedy could travel far beyond home.
Two years later, in 2023, he returned with Vir Das: Landing. That special didn’t just get nominated—it won. Das took home the International Emmy for Comedy, sharing the trophy with the British series Derry Girls Season 3. The win made him the first Indian comedian to ever win an International Emmy, a milestone that changed how the global industry viewed Indian stand-up.
In 2024, Das went a step further and became the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards ceremony in New York.
Now, with Fool Volume, he’s back in the race for a third time.
What Makes Fool Volume Special
Vir Das: Fool Volume premiered on Netflix on July 18, 2025. It was filmed across three cities—Mumbai, London, and New York—and stands as his fifth Netflix stand-up special, making him the first Indian comedian to reach that milestone.
The special was born from a very real struggle. Shortly before he was due to record the show, Das lost his voice. Instead of cancelling, he rewrote the entire special in silence and performed it largely without rehearsal. That difficult experience became the heart of Fool Volume, which explores themes of silence, happiness, foolishness, and finding one’s voice again.
“This special came from a period when I literally lost my voice, so to see something that began in silence travel this far is pretty surreal. For India was the first time I understood that our comedy could find a home on a global stage, Landing gave me an Emmy, and now Fool Volume has brought me back into that conversation.”
The special also received praise from Hrithik Roshan, who called it “the best stand-up show ever” in an Instagram post.
India’s Other Big Emmy Moment
India has a second reason to celebrate. SonyLIV’s web series Real Kashmir Football Club has been nominated in the Drama Series category. The show stars Manav Kaul and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and is based on the real-life story of Real Kashmir FC, the first professional football club from Jammu and Kashmir. It premiered in December 2025 and will compete against A Thousand Blows (UK), Carême (France), and Menem (Argentina).
Manav Kaul reacted to the nomination with simple joy: “Real Kashmir Football Club is one of my favourite works. I always thought this series deserves much, much more. I am so happy for Team RKFC and their hard work.”
When Are the 2026 International Emmys?
The 54th International Emmy Awards Gala will take place on Monday, November 23, 2026, in New York City. This year’s nominations cover 64 nominees across 16 categories, representing 22 countries including India, the UK, Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, and Spain.
Before the main ceremony, nominees will take part in the International Emmy World Television Festival in New York from November 20 to 22, with the main festival events on November 21 and 22.
For Das, the nomination is another step in a journey that keeps growing. As he put it, “Three nominations is something I never imagined when we made the first one, so I’m just going to enjoy the fact that the fool keeps getting louder.”
