Panchayat actor Aasif Khan has landed in fresh trouble during his Bigg Boss 20 stint after a comment linking moustaches to manhood triggered backlash from viewers, fellow housemates, and former winner Gauahar Khan. The controversy unfolded during a captaincy task in the latest episode, where the actor claimed that men without moustaches are not considered “real men” in his home state of Rajasthan.
The remark spread quickly across social media after clips from the episode surfaced online, with users calling the statement “socially backward” and pointing out that Salman Khan — the host of the very show Aasif is appearing on — does not sport a moustache.
What Aasif Khan Said During the Task
The argument began after Yung DSA’s team won the diss battle competition and became contenders for captaincy. Bigg Boss then introduced another task where remaining housemates had to reject the contestant they did not want as captain.
Gullu placed a rejected stamp on Yung DSA’s face, saying Yung acted as though he was running the whole house. He also objected to Yung styling the moustaches of everyone in his group the same way.
When Aasif received the majority of rejected stamps, he defended Yung on the moustache issue and said:
“Hum naa Rajasthan se aate hain, yeh mooch humari pehchaan hai, aur muchmundo ko mardon mein consider nahi karte hum. Isliye daadi aisi hai (We come from Rajasthan. This moustache is our identity, and we don’t consider men without moustaches to be real men).”
Housemates Push Back Strongly
Gullu (Kushal Tanwar) challenged Aasif’s claim right inside the house, stating that many men do not keep moustaches. He also reminded Aasif about the host of the show:
“A lot of people don’t keep moustaches. Jinke aap show mein aaye ho voh bhi mooch nahi rakhte (The person in whose show you are currently in also doesn’t keep a moustache). Inki mardangi hai mooch (His manhood is just moustache).”
Aman Gandhi also disagreed with Aasif’s statement. Mahhi Vij criticised the actor’s definition of a “real man” and argued that masculinity should not be tied to aggression or physical appearance:
“Inhone bola real mard aise hote hain, real mard bilkul aise nahi hote. Real mard ghar ko jod kar rakhte hain, naaki inke tarah aggressive hote hai (He said real men are like this, real men are not at all like this. Real men keep their family together, rather than being aggressive like him).”
Gauahar Khan Slams “Small Thinking”
Bigg Boss 7 winner Gauahar Khan took to Instagram on Friday and shared a long note criticising Aasif’s remarks. She questioned why a talented actor would join the reality show only to display what she called “small thinking and really silly behaviour”.
“Yaar, I have a question, Asif ka career toh acting mein bohat accha chal raha hai naa (Aasif’s career in acting is going well), he shouldn’t have come on the show to showcase such small thinking and really silly behaviour,” she wrote.
Gauahar also brought religion into the discussion, pointing out that in Islam, keeping no moustache is considered Sunnah for Muslim men. She added:
“Mard ki nishaani uski unchi soch aur behaviour hoti hai! (A man’s true identity is reflected in his broad-mindedness and behaviour!) Wish he knew that!”
Social Media Erupts With Criticism
Users on X (formerly Twitter) did not hold back. One user wrote, “Even Salman Khan doesn’t have moustache,” while another called it “such a sick mentality”. A third comment read, “Salman doesn’t have too, he will again be bashed in weekend ka vaar”.
Another user posted a sharp take: “Bro’s entire definition of masculinity starts and ends above the upper lip”.
Several viewers demanded that Salman Khan address the remark during the upcoming Weekend Ka Vaar episode. Aasif had already faced criticism from Salman last week for his aggressive behaviour in the house, with the host calling him the “epitome of badtameezi”.
Who Is Aasif Khan
Aasif Khan is a Rajasthan-born actor who has built a strong reputation through OTT shows. He was born on March 13, 1991, in Nimbahera, Chittorgarh district, Rajasthan. His father, late Ayyub Khan, worked at JK Cement, and his mother, Firdous Khan, is a housewife.
He spent around five years doing theatre in Jaipur before moving to Mumbai. He worked as a casting assistant and even took up jobs as a waiter before finding steady acting work.
His breakthrough came with Mirzapur, where he played Babar. He later appeared in Paatal Lok, Jamtara, and Panchayat, where his character Ganesh — the famously grumpy groom — became a meme sensation with the line “Gajab beizzati hai yaar”.
Aasif is married to Zeba since 2024. His wife recently spoke out defending their marriage amid viral clips of him hugging fellow contestant Love Gill on the show.
