Four Hands, Two Sonatas is heading into its final weekend with big moments on and off screen. Song Kang’s character Kang Pio is making a last-ditch effort to win back his spot as the soloist for Choi Jeong Yo’s piano concerto “Nemesis” in Episode 11, airing October 3 at 9:30 p.m. KST. At the same time, the drama’s music team is preparing a two-part OST release, and Jang Gyu-ri’s performance as Hong Jae In continues to draw attention for its range.
Kang Pio Makes A Bold Move To Reclaim His Role
The tension between Kang Pio and Choi Jeong Yo has reached a breaking point. In earlier episodes, Choi Jeong Yo chose Kang Pio as the soloist for his piano concerto “Nemesis”, a piece he spent five years perfecting. But after rehearsals began, Choi Jeong Yo fired Kang Pio, saying he could not convey the emotions and imagery the piece required.
Now, Kang Pio is going all out to change that decision. He makes a bold move as a last-ditch effort to reclaim his role as soloist. This comes right after Kang Pio received musical advice from his distant grandfather for the first time. Whether that advice will help him convince Choi Jeong Yo to reverse his decision is the key question for Episode 11.
The episode airs on October 3 at 9:30 p.m. KST on tvN. For global viewers, Episode 11 will be available on Netflix at approximately 3 p.m. GMT and 11 a.m. ET on the same day.
A Concerto That Carries Five Years Of Pain
The “Nemesis” concerto is not just any piece of music in the drama. Choi Jeong Yo composed it over five years, and it holds deep meaning for his character’s journey. The piece weaves together lyricism and passion, matching the complex bond between the two pianists.
The concerto will be released to the public for the first time as part of the Four Hands OST compilation album. This gives fans a chance to hear the full piece that has been at the center of the drama’s biggest conflict.
Two-Part OST Release Set For October 4 And 5
The music of Four Hands, Two Sonatas is getting a proper send-off with two releases. STONE MUSIC, the OST production company, announced that the Four Hands OST Classic Collection will be released on October 4 at 6 p.m. KST, followed by the full Four Hands OST compilation album on October 5 at noon KST.
The Classic Collection features 10 classical tracks curated by music director Kim Joon-seok. Pianists Park Joo-young and Lee Min-sung perform alongside the Prague Metropolitan Orchestra.
Here is what the Classic Collection includes:
- Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 (all three movements), which serves as Kang Pio’s signature piece
- Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre in a four-hands piano and orchestra version, marking the first moment Choi Jeong Yo and Kang Pio shared their feelings
- Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 8 “Pathétique” 1st Movement
- Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20
- Bach’s Cantata
The full compilation album on October 5 adds more to the collection. It includes Kim Joon-seok’s score tracks, three vocal tracks by Jung Seung-hwan, So Soo-bin, and Jae-yeon, and all 10 classical pieces. The self-composed “Nemesis” concerto also makes its debut through this album.
Jung Seung-hwan’s track “Through the Moon” was released as OST Part 1 on August 30, while So Soo-bin’s “Know You, Feel You” arrived as OST Part 2 on September 6.
Jang Gyu-ri Brings Two Sides Of Hong Jae In To Life
Jang Gyu-ri’s portrayal of Hong Jae In has stood out for showing a clear change in the character over time. At 17, Hong Jae In is a bright viola major with perfect pitch, able to identify every note she hears. She wears a school uniform with a headband and braided bangs, bringing out her lovable, ray-of-sunshine energy.
By 27, Hong Jae In has become Kang Pio’s manager. Her style shifts to tweed jackets, shirts, earrings, and ear cuffs, creating a polished look that highlights her professional side. Jang Gyu-ri explained the change in an interview.
“Stylistically, since this is the period when Jae-in is working as Pi-o’s manager in her 20s, I wanted to show her in structured, polished looks that appeared fully put together overall. She also wore a watch often, and I think it became a detail that highlighted Jae-in’s professional side.”
The actress also spoke about what drew her to the role.
“I found the story appealing because it portrays the growth, love, and friendship of young people with music at its center.”
Hong Jae In’s journey also includes moving on from her long-time unrequited love for Kang Pio. As the conflict between Kang Pio and Choi Jeong Yo over the “Nemesis” performance builds toward the 80th-anniversary concert, viewers are watching to see how she changes after finally letting go.
