What Happened in Season 1
The Detective Is Already Dead follows Kimihiko Kimizuka, a young man who has a talent for getting caught up in dangerous situations. During a plane hijacking, he meets Siesta, a self-proclaimed legendary detective, who hires him as her assistant on the spot. The two spend three years traveling the world together, solving cases and fighting against a shadowy organization called SPES.
Their partnership ends when Siesta dies. A year after her death, Kimihiko is approached by Nagisa Natsunagi, a girl who received Siesta’s heart through a transplant. Nagisa asks for his help in finding her would-be killer, and Kimihiko is pulled back into the world of detective work he thought he had left behind.
Across Season 1’s 12 episodes, Kimihiko and Nagisa are joined by Yui Saikawa, a popular idol, and Charlotte Arisaka Anderson, a skilled fighter. The group faces off against Hel, a former ally of Siesta, and the assassin Chameleon. The season culminates in a battle at sea where Kimihiko nearly dies. Siesta’s consciousness briefly surfaces through Nagisa’s body, confirming that Nagisa has been connected to Siesta since receiving her heart. Siesta explains that she had accepted her death and wanted her legacy to continue through those she left behind.
Kimihiko Kimizuka’s Current Story
Kimihiko is the protagonist and narrator of the series. He describes himself as a magnet for trouble, a trait that led him to meet Siesta in the first place. His three years as her assistant gave him combat skills, detective instincts, and a deep bond with a partner he could not save.
Season 1 showed Kimihiko struggling to move forward after Siesta’s death. The finale forced him to confront the possibility that Siesta’s consciousness still exists within Nagisa. Season 2 Episode 1 pushes him further when he is abducted and shown a recording that reveals the truth behind Siesta’s death.
Nagisa Natsunagi’s Role
Nagisa received Siesta’s heart and has been connected to the detective ever since. She initially sought Kimihiko’s help to find the person who tried to kill her, but her role grew into something larger. The Season 1 finale established that Siesta’s consciousness can surface through Nagisa under extreme circumstances.
The Season 2 premiere places Nagisa at the center of the mystery. While watching the video recorded by Siesta, Nagisa notices a crucial detail that others miss. Her connection to Siesta makes her both a target and a key to understanding the truth.
Yui Saikawa and Charlotte’s Roles
Yui Saikawa is a popular idol who joined Kimihiko’s circle after a case involving her safety. Her cheerful personality balances the group’s more serious members. Charlotte Arisaka Anderson is a skilled combatant who worked with Siesta in the past. She provides muscle and a no-nonsense attitude when the group faces danger.
Both characters are abducted along with Kimihiko and Nagisa in the Season 2 premiere, placing them at the center of the new mystery from the very first episode.
Siesta and the Mystery of Noches
Siesta is the legendary detective whose death drives the entire story. She appears in flashbacks throughout Season 1, showing her sharp mind, playful personality, and the bond she shared with Kimihiko. Despite being dead, her presence remains constant in the series.
Season 2 introduces Noches, a new character who looks exactly like Siesta and wears a maid outfit. Saki Miyashita voices both Siesta and Noches. The Season 2 premiere shows Siesta appearing before Kimihiko and the others in a maid outfit, raising questions about Noches’s identity and connection to the late detective.
