Dragon Ball Super: Beerus premiered worldwide on October 11, 2026, and the demand was so massive that it took down Crunchyroll for thousands of subscribers. The enhanced remake of the 2015 Dragon Ball Super anime brought back Goku and the God of Destruction Beerus with new animation and a rebuilt story, and fans rushed to watch it the moment it went live.

What Happened When The Episode Dropped

Subscribers across North America and other regions tried to stream Episode 1, titled “The God Who Destroys,” as soon as it appeared on Crunchyroll. Many were met with an error message saying, “We’re having trouble connecting! Try again in a moment, or check your internet connection.” The French streaming service Animation Digital Network (ADN) also reported server problems, telling users, “We’re experiencing difficulties with our server; our teams have been notified. Sorry for the inconvenience.”

The outage was reported by the X account Anime Updates and confirmed by prominent Dragon Ball influencer Hype (@DbsHype), who wrote, “Multiple users are posting that Crunchyroll is currently down for them, and they’re unable to watch the episode.” In another post, Hype added, “First Crunchyroll and now ADN, the anime distribution network in France, is also facing server issues once Beerus EP1 was released on their site!”

The platform stabilized after a short period, but the crash showed just how big the Dragon Ball audience still is. A similar thing happened in 2017 when Goku first used Ultra Instinct in the original Dragon Ball Super, and again in 2025 when Super Saiyan 4 Goku appeared in Dragon Ball Daima.

A Remake That Fixes The Original

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is not a simple re-release. It is a fully rebuilt version of the first arcs of Dragon Ball Super, which originally aired from 2015 to 2018. The new version removes filler content, redraws scenes, adds material from Akira Toriyama’s original manga notes, and improves the animation quality that many fans felt was rushed in the 2015 version.

The series covers three major story arcs: the Beerus Saga, the Resurrection F Saga, and the Universe 6 Saga. The first episode alone adds new fight scenes, including flashbacks of Goku battling Frieza, Cell, and Kid Buu. The premiere also introduces Beerus waking from his long sleep and Whis sending him to a distant planet for food, scenes that expand on the original story.

Masako Nozawa returns as the voice of Son Goku, and Kōichi Yamadera is back as Beerus. The English dub cast includes Jason Douglas as Beerus, Ian Sinclair as Whis, and Monica Rial as Bulma. The opening theme “ONOGAMI” is performed by MEGATERA・ZERO, and the ending theme “Kan Peki No Peki” is by VK Blanka.

What Fans Are Saying

Reactions to the first episode have been mixed. Some fans praised the improved animation and the return of classic sound effects.

“It’s honestly not even comparable, the new stuff is so crisp,” one Reddit user wrote about the visual upgrades.

“We can finally see it for what it was MEANT to be,” another viewer commented on a side-by-side comparison.

Other fans were less impressed, pointing out that the episode still reuses scenes from the 2015 version.

“There is a lot of recycling from the 2015 series,” one fan wrote on social media.

“Beerus has the worst ending I have seen in a Dragon Ball series. Even the ending is recycling scenes from the episodes. A shame,” another fan said.

Some viewers also questioned whether the Beerus arc needed a remake at all, since it was already covered in the 2017 movie Battle of Gods and the original anime. A social media campaign using the slogan “no more censorship” has also been circulating, with some fans criticizing recent Dragon Ball releases for softening violent scenes.
