Magical Girl Raising Project: Restart Episode 1 Recap

Episode 1, titled “Hello Daisy,” introduced the new cast and the deadly scenario. Pechka, a middle school magical girl whose only power is making food taste delicious, was living a quiet life and delivering homemade bento to a boy she liked. Her peaceful routine ended when she was forcibly pulled into a mysterious virtual game space alongside 16 other magical girls.

The episode also introduced Magical Daisy, a veteran magical girl who once starred in her own in-universe anime. Daisy had been living a lonely life after her show ended, and the game gave her a sense of purpose as a team leader again. Pfle, a wheelchair-using magical girl with a sharp mind, served as another key figure, offering analytical observations about the other players.

At the end of Episode 1, the girls learned they were trapped in a game with no clear exit. The first round featured waves of skeletal enemies, and the episode established that magical powers would not guarantee survival. The announcement of a 10 billion yen reward for the player who lands the finishing blow set the stage for inevitable betrayals.

Key Characters and Their Current Story Progress

Pechka (Chika Tatehara) remains the emotional center of the story. Her non-combat magic makes her an unlikely survivor, but her kindness and cooking ability have already begun to earn her allies. In the light novels, she becomes part of Team Clantail alongside Rionetta and Nonako Miyokata.

Magical Daisy (Kiku Yakumo) leads Team Daisy, which includes Nokko-chan, @NyanNyan, and Genopsyko Yumenoshima. Daisy’s experience and combat-ready Daisy Beam ability make her one of the strongest players, but her desire to be needed again could cloud her judgment.

Pfle (Kanoe Hitokouji) leads her own team and is described as a non-combat magical girl who is still extremely dangerous. She is the childhood friend of Shadow Gale and operates with a calculating mindset that contrasts with Daisy’s heroic approach.

Clantail leads a team composed of Pechka, Rionetta, and Nonako Miyokata. A survivor of the previous Cranberry’s exams, Clantail begins the game with a stern demeanor but gradually becomes friends with Pechka.

Other notable players include Shadow Gale (Mamori Totoyama), Pfle’s childhood friend; Masked Wonder, a hero-type magical girl; and Rionetta, a quiet but capable member of Team Clantail.

Magical Girl Raising Project Season 1 Story Recap

The original Magical Girl Raising Project anime aired in 2016 and followed Koyuki Himekawa, a middle school girl who became the magical girl Snow White after being selected by the social game “Magical Girl Raising Project.” The game promised that one out of every tens of thousands of players would become a real magical girl.

Snow White’s life changed when the game’s administrators announced that the number of magical girls had grown too high and had to be cut in half. This triggered a deadly survival game where magical girls turned on each other to collect Magical Candies. Snow White’s closest ally, La Pucelle, was killed, and she faced relentless attacks from other players, including Hardgore Alice.

The season ended with Snow White among the few survivors, but the experience left her deeply scarred. Restart picks up several years after those events, with a new game and a new cast, though Snow White returns as a character voiced by Nao Tōyama.

Production Details and Staff for Magical Girl Raising Project: Restart

Hiroyuki Hashimoto returns as director, having helmed the original 2016 anime. Takao Yoshioka handles series scripts, and Masako Itou designs the characters based on original designs by Maruino. Satoki Iida is the sound director.

Synergy SP takes over animation production from Lerche, which animated the first season. The opening theme “No tears here” is performed by Minori Chihara, while Daisy x Daisy performs the ending theme “ReMind”.

The anime is based on the light novel series by Asari Endō and illustrator Maruino, published under Takarajimasha’s Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! Bunko label. Restart adapts the second arc of the light novel series.

The season is confirmed for 12 episodes, with new episodes releasing weekly through December 22, 2026.

What Happens in Episode 2: The Players

Episode 2, titled “The Players,” follows the aftermath of the first game round. The 16 magical girls must now navigate the rules of the simulation while deciding who to trust. The episode title suggests a deeper focus on the game’s mechanics and the players’ individual strategies.

In the light novel source material, the second chapter of Restart explores the team dynamics that form after the first battle. Alliances begin to solidify, and the first signs of betrayal emerge as the girls realize that only one player can claim the 10 billion yen prize. The Magical Phones that pull the girls into the game every three days serve as both a tool and a threat, with hit points dropping to zero carrying deadly consequences.

Episode 2 will also continue to develop Pechka’s perspective. As a non-combat magical girl, she must rely on her teammates for survival while grappling with the moral implications of the game. Her developing friendship with Clantail and the other members of her team will be a central emotional thread.
