What Happened in PSYЯEN Episode 1
Episode 1, titled “Urban Legend,” introduced Ageha Yoshina, a high school student who runs a small problem-solving business for 10,000 yen per job. Ageha acts tough but genuinely cares about the people around him. He noticed something was off with his childhood friend and classmate Sakurako Amamiya, a quiet girl known as the “Ice Queen”.
Ageha found a strange red telephone card left inside a public phone booth. Days later, Sakurako, who carried the same card, vanished after telling him to “save her.” Searching for answers, Ageha learned about the urban legend of Psyren, a secret organization linked to mysterious disappearances across Japan. He also discovered the card was valued at 5 million yen and connected to a being called Nemesis Q.
Ageha dialed the number on the card and was asked a series of questions about his life and memories before hanging up. Soon after, mysterious attackers chased him. Cornered and desperate, he answered a ringing phone and was transported to a barren wasteland. There, he witnessed a giant monster kill another person before a girl with psychic powers appeared and saved him.
What to Expect in PSYЯEN Episode 2 “Taboo”
Episode 2 is titled “Taboo” (禁人種) and continues directly from the premiere’s ending. The official synopsis confirms that Ageha and Sakurako reunite in the Psyren world, but Sakurako collapses from exhaustion. Ageha then encounters a group of people gathered in the ruins — participants in the Psyren game drawn by the promise of a large bounty.
Among them is Hiryu Asaga, a man searching for his missing friend Tatsuo. A mysterious voice echoes in everyone’s minds: “To those who reach Psyren, all of the world! Find the gate!” Ignoring Ageha’s warnings about monsters outside, the greedy participants rush out and are killed one by one by creatures.
