Horror Collector Episode 1 Recap: The Red Notebook, the Snow Woman, and the Wriggler
Episode 1, titled “The Red Notebook,” introduced the core premise and two separate urban legend cases. The first story followed a schoolgirl named Hiromi, who hears a rumor about a woman who jumped from the roof of her apartment building. The legend says that if snow falls suddenly and you look out the window at midnight, the woman’s ghost will curse you. Snow falls out of nowhere. Hiromi looks out the window at midnight. The ghost appears, and the haunting escalates until Hiromi runs to the rooftop, where the ghost nearly drags her over the edge.
Fushigi, the boy in the red hood, arrives at the last moment with Jimmy, a human-faced dog wearing a hoodie. Jimmy bites the ghost, and Fushigi recites phrases backwards to seal the spirit inside his red notebook. Hiromi survives, but Fushigi offers no explanation and walks away, leaving her alone with no closure.
The second story followed three friends, Natsuna, Yurie, and Rin, who see a white figure called The Wriggler dancing over a field. The figure haunts them over several days, driving them into danger. Unlike the first case, Fushigi arrives too late. One of the girls is already dead. The episode used this second case to show that Fushigi and Jimmy are untouchable, but the supporting cast is not.

Character Progress: Fushigi, Jimmy, Himitsu, and the Guest Cast of Episode 2
Fushigi Senno, voiced by Hiiro Ishibashi, is the boy in the red hood. He travels across Japan to collect manifested urban legends in his red notebook. His larger goal is to capture Himitsu, a girl who can bring urban legends to life. Episode 1 showed Fushigi as calm and efficient, but also cold. He does not comfort the traumatized survivors and gives no answers.
Jimmy, voiced by Jun Fukuyama, is a human-faced dog who speaks in the Kansai dialect. He was once a photographer who was turned into a dog. Jimmy provides comic relief and combat support, biting ghosts when Fushigi needs an opening to seal them.
Himitsu, voiced by Saori Hayami, is Fushigi’s twin sister. She has no face and possesses the power to materialize urban legends. She has not appeared in the present-day story yet, but she is the reason Fushigi travels and collects legends.
Episode 2 introduces a new guest character, Seira Takada, voiced by Sumire Uesaka. Seira is a high schooler who becomes involved in the Nanoka-chan urban legend, where anyone photographed with Nanoka-chan d*es within seven days. The episode also continues the series pattern of a new standalone horror case with Fushigi and Jimmy arriving to collect the legend.
What to Expect in Horror Collector Episode 2
Episode 2, “The Shadow Enveloping the City,” centers on the Nanoka-chan legend. A photograph of Nanoka-chan is said to mark its subjects for d*ath within a week. Seira Takada is the guest character caught in this case. The episode follows the same structure as the premiere: a new urban legend manifests, ordinary people are threatened, and Fushigi and Jimmy arrive to seal the spirit in the red notebook. The question is whether Fushigi reaches this victim in time, or whether the series delivers another grim outcome like The Wriggler case.
Crunchyroll releases Horror Collector Episode 2 on October 17, 2026, at 10:15 a.m. PDT / 1:15 p.m. EDT. NHK General airs the episode in Japan the same day at 11:45 p.m. JST, with NHK ONE streaming it immediately after broadcast.
