Chicago P.D. Season 14 premiered on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, on NBC, and the Intelligence Unit is going through its biggest shake-up in years. The season is confirmed for 21 episodes , and it marks the departure of original cast member LaRoyce Hawkins as Kevin Atwater after 13 seasons. A familiar face is also returning behind the camera, and the show is casting a brand-new character described as an “agent of chaos” to fill the gap.
The season opened with “Demolition,” an episode that picked up the fallout from Imani’s decision about her sister and set the tone for what showrunner Gwen Sigan calls a year of “reinvention”. Here is everything confirmed about the schedule, the cast changes, and the details that even longtime viewers might have missed.
Full Episode Schedule for Chicago P.D. Season 14
New episodes air every Wednesday at 10 PM ET/PT on NBC, immediately following Chicago Fire. Episodes stream the next day on Peacock for U.S. subscribers. The first four episode titles and dates have been confirmed by NBC and multiple TV trackers.
- Episode 1 — “Demolition”: Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The premiere dealt with the aftermath of Imani turning in her sister and introduced a parole officer shooting case.
- Episode 2 — “Don’t Blink”: Wednesday, October 14, 2026. This is LaRoyce Hawkins’ final episode as a series regular. Jesse Lee Soffer directed the hour.
- Episode 3 — “Under the Surface”: Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
- Episode 4 — “My Eye, My Call”: Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
NBC has not released titles for episodes beyond the fourth. The season will run through May 2027 if it follows the standard broadcast calendar without major breaks.
LaRoyce Hawkins Bids Farewell to Atwater
LaRoyce Hawkins has played Kevin Atwater since the show’s first episode in 2014. His exit was confirmed in July 2026, and he appears only in the first two episodes of Season 14 to wrap up his character’s story.
The show gave Atwater a send-off that fits the character’s journey. Season 13 ended with Atwater learning he was going to be a father, and the premiere confirmed that the baby was coming. Showrunner Gwen Sigan confirmed that viewers would meet the baby on screen.
“We will meet that little baby,” Sigan told Us Weekly. “We get some really nice moments. I think of Atwater with his new family, with this family unit that they have created”.
Atwater’s exit is not a death. The character leaves the Intelligence Unit for a teaching role in Atlanta to be with his girlfriend Tasha Fox and their newborn son. The door remains open for a return.
Jesse Lee Soffer Returns, But Not as Halstead
Jesse Lee Soffer, who played Jay Halstead for ten seasons, returned to Chicago P.D. in Season 14. He did not step back in front of the camera. Soffer directed Episode 2, “Don’t Blink,” which is also Hawkins’ final episode.
This was Soffer’s fourth time directing the show. His first directing credit came in Season 10, the same season he left as a cast member. Sigan praised the reunion.
“The really beautiful thing about this show is people remain in the family,” Sigan told Give Me My Remote. “To have Jesse be back—he’s grown so much as a director. And for him to have that experience with LaRoyce, I think, was really wonderful for the pair of them”.
The New Character Replacing Atwater
NBC is not replacing Atwater with a copy of the same character. The show put out a casting call for a new series regular described as “a Black cop who is an agent of chaos” , a direct contrast to Atwater’s steady, grounded personality.
Sigan explained the thinking behind the new addition.
“There’s nothing worse than bringing in a character that fills the same role as the one that’s departing,” she told TV Guide. “That’s opening yourself, and the new actor, to comparisons”.
The new character had not been cast or named at the time of the Season 14 premiere.
Imani’s New Path and a Growing Friendship With Torres
Arienne Mandi’s Officer Eva Imani is at the center of the season’s emotional story. The Season 13 finale left her with an impossible choice about her long-lost sister Shari, who was implicated in a murder. The premiere confirmed that Imani turned her sister in.
That decision leaves Imani with a void in her life. She spent years searching for her sister, and now that chapter is closed. Sigan said the season explores what Imani does with all that time and energy.
A key part of that journey is her friendship with Dante Torres, played by Benjamin Levy Aguilar. Sigan confirmed the show is strengthening that bond.
“We’re definitely interested in strengthening that friendship this year and sort of exploring it and exploring the connection that they have,” Sigan told People. “They have this very natural connection as characters”.
The connection between Mandi and Aguilar is not just on screen. The two actors met in a jiu-jitsu class in 2020, before either was cast on the show, and became close friends.
