Yaga brings Slavic folklore into a modern mystery thriller, and viewers across the world now have different ways to watch the eight-episode series. The show premieres with two episodes on Friday, October 23, 2026, and new episodes arrive weekly until a double-episode finale on Friday, November 27. The series runs for eight episodes, each about 30 minutes long, making it an easy binge for anyone who enjoys a creepy coastal-town mystery with a supernatural edge.
What Is Yaga About
The story follows Rapp, a private investigator who arrives in the small coastal town of Whittock to look into the disappearance of Henry Park, a young heir to a powerful fishery. Rapp quickly clashes with Carson, a local detective who does not welcome his involvement, and becomes drawn toward Katherine, a charismatic university professor with a taste for younger men. The case pulls Rapp into a web of secret lives, strange suspects, and ancient magic tied to the Baba Yaga myth.
The series is based on a hit play by Kat Sandler, who also serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Sandler described the show as a way to reclaim the wicked witch figure and reshape her as “an incendiary feminist antihero for our time”.
Who Is in the Cast
Carrie-Anne Moss leads the ensemble as Katherine, the guarded professor who seems to know more than she reveals. Noah Reid plays Rapp, the investigator whose charm and humor rub some people the wrong way. Clark Backo plays Carson, the no-nonsense local detective who becomes Rapp’s reluctant partner. Hudson Williams takes on a dual role as Henry Park and Logan, the missing heir’s lookalike roommate.
Supporting cast members include Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Ezra Franky, Patrick Gilmore, Katharine Isabelle, and Hiro Kanagawa, along with Emilija Baranac, Georgia Acken, Anisa Harris, and Sam Krochmal. David Frazee and Rachel Talalay serve as co-directors.

The official trailer features Alanis Morissette’s cover of Donovan’s “Season of the Witch,” which sets a dark and eerie tone for the coastal mystery. Reviews have described the show as neo-gothic, atmospheric, and genre-bending, with a mix of dry humor and supernatural tension. The coastal setting of Whittock, filmed around Victoria, British Columbia, adds fog, forests, and a constant sense of dread to the story.
What Reviews Say
Early reviews are mixed but mostly curious. The Review Geek gave the first two episodes scores of 3/5 and 3.5/5, calling the dialogue snappy and the neo-gothic plot worth watching for Halloween season. Horror Geek Life said the first two episodes were “solid, with a well-told story, good characters, and enough mystery” to keep viewers guessing. Pocket-lint was less impressed, criticizing the slow pace and calling the opener short on scares.
