BTS V (Kim Taehyung) has made history as the most-loved celebrity on South Korea’s military app Goondori, setting an unmatched record with 4.65 million cheering messages from fans worldwide. The achievement was confirmed on June 9, just before his official military discharge on June 10, 2025.

Goondori is a popular app used by soldiers and fans to track military service and send supportive messages to enlisted individuals. V’s record-breaking total makes him the first and only Korean celebrity—across idols, actors, athletes, and creators—to surpass 3 million messages, let alone 4.6 million. His nearest competitor received less than half his total.

Fans, known as ARMY, flooded the app daily with encouraging notes, photos, and updates celebrating V’s service. The messages often highlighted his kindness, resilience, and dedication during his 18-month tenure in the elite Special Duty Team (SDT) under the 2nd Corps Military Police Unit. His unit specializes in counterterrorism, hostage rescue, and high-risk operations, requiring intense physical and mental training.

“Taehyung’s humility and hard work in the military inspired us to support him even more. Every message was a small way to remind him he’s not alone,” shared a fan from Brazil on X (formerly Twitter). Another fan added, “He gave his best for his country; we wanted to give our best for him.”

V’s military journey was marked by multiple accolades, including the Military Police Exemplary Award and top rankings in marksmanship and urban warfare training. Despite injuries to his shoulders and thighs, he earned promotions to Sergeant First Class and became a role model for fellow soldiers. His commander praised him for his leadership and positive attitude, calling him “a soldier who led by example.”

During his discharge ceremony in Chuncheon, V thanked fans and comrades: “I’ve grown so much here—physically and mentally. I’ll work hard to make you proud as an artist and person.” His unit also shared heartfelt farewells, with one soldier writing, “You shined brighter than anyone here. Now go shine even more in the world.”

The BTS fandom’s global reach was key to V’s Goondori milestone. Fans from Mexico, Turkey, the U.S., and Southeast Asia coordinated campaigns to keep his messages trending. The app’s developers noted his unprecedented engagement, which crashed servers twice due to high traffic.

With his military service complete, V rejoins RM, Jimin, and Jungkook, who were also recently discharged. Suga, the final member, will complete his service on June 21, paving the way for BTS’s full-group reunion. Industry analysts predict a 2026 world tour, with HYBE’s stock already rising 15% post-discharge announcements.

V’s Goondori record underscores his enduring influence—even in uniform. As one fan summed up: “Love for Taehyung isn’t seasonal; it’s forever.”
