The first teaser for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 has arrived, showing King Kong for the first time in the Apple TV series. The preview confirms the show’s return in 2026 and brings back fan-favorite characters for a new adventure centered on Skull Island.

Season 2 Release Schedule and Key Details

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will return for its second season on February 27, 2026. The new season will consist of ten episodes that will release weekly every Friday. The season finale is scheduled for May 1, 2026.

The upcoming season continues the story of the secretive monster-tracking organization Monarch. The official description states the new season picks up with the fate of Monarch and the world hanging in the balance. The story will reveal buried secrets that reunite heroes and villains on Kong’s Skull Island. Viewers will also be introduced to a new, mysterious village where a mythical Titan rises from the sea.

Returning Cast and New Additions

Kurt Russell will return as Lee Shaw, resolving the cliffhanger from Season 1 that left his character’s fate uncertain. His real-life son, Wyatt Russell, will also return as the younger version of Lee Shaw. The teaser cleverly confirms Kurt Russell’s return with his on-set remark:

“You’re not getting rid of me that easily.”

The main cast from the first season is returning, including Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett, and Anders Holm. The show has also added Amber Midthunder, known for her role in Prey, to the cast. She will play Isabel, a savvy businesswoman.

Kong’s Role and The Monsterverse Connection

The new teaser emphasizes that Kong and his home, Skull Island, will be central to Season 2’s story. While Godzilla was a focus of the first season, the preview gives audiences their first proper look at Kong within the series. The show exists within Legendary’s Monsterverse, which includes films like Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), and the more recent Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

The series serves as a bridge between the human drama and the larger monster mythology of the films. It explores the origins of the Monarch organization and the people connected to it. Season 2 will continue to balance large-scale monster action with the personal stories of its characters.

Production Team and Background

Chris Black returns as showrunner and executive producer for the second season. The series is executive produced by Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures, along with Jen Roskind, Matt Shakman, and Lawrence Trilling, who will direct four episodes. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the company that owns the Godzilla character.

The first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters followed two siblings, Cate Randa and Kentaro, as they investigated their family’s hidden connection to Monarch. Their search led them to the story of Lee Shaw and the early days of the organization, told across two timelines in the 1950s and 2015. The Season 1 finale left Lee Shaw stranded in the Hollow Earth after he helped other characters escape.

Apple TV has a multi-series deal with Legendary Entertainment that includes the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and potential spinoff series based on the franchise. The Monsterverse franchise has generated over $2.5 billion at the global box office from its films.
