The character of Mindy Chen, played by Ashley Park, is not pregnant in Emily in Paris. Online curiosity about a potential pregnancy storyline for Mindy stems from the show’s history of exploring complex plots about having children through other characters. Mindy’s current narrative in Season 5 focuses instead on her music career, her deep friendship with Emily, and a surprising new romantic entanglement.

The show’s only major pregnancy plot involved Camille Razat’s character, Camille, and chef Gabriel. This storyline, which stretched across the third and fourth seasons, was built on a significant deception that ultimately led to Camille’s exit from the series.

The pregnancy question in Emily in Paris was central to the drama between Camille and Gabriel. At the end of Season 3, Camille stopped her wedding to Gabriel and later revealed she was pregnant. This news complicated the long-running love triangle involving Emily.

However, Season 4 revealed a major twist: Camille was never pregnant. She had experienced a rare false positive test. When she returned to Paris and saw how excited Gabriel was about the baby, she chose to continue the lie in an attempt to keep him. Gabriel, who had always wanted to be a father, was devastated when the truth came out, leading to their final breakup.

Show creator Darren Star explained that this lie shattered the foundation of Gabriel and Camille’s relationship. The fallout led Camille to leave Paris, and her character did not return for Season 5. Star told Radio Times, “I think Camille’s storyline was a wonderful storyline, but I think it ran its course by the end of season 4”.

In the newest season, Mindy’s story is driven by romance and friendship, not pregnancy. The central conflict for Mindy involves her unexpected romance with Alfie, who is Emily’s ex-boyfriend. Mindy and Alfie acted on their feelings without telling Emily, which created a serious rift between the two best friends when Emily found out.

“It was really important, I think, in a friendship as strong as Mindy and Emilyโ€™s, to show cracks and to show the realistic nature of what a friendship is,” Lily Collins told Deadline. “Things arenโ€™t always perfect”.

Ashley Park described the experience of filming those argument scenes as “odd,” noting that she had never spoken to Collins that way before. The actors said they would reassure each other between takes.

The season ends with a dramatic engagement, but not for Emily. In the finale in Venice, Nicolas “Nico” de Leon proposes to Mindy, and she accepts. This leaves Mindy questioning her decision, with Park noting that for the first time, Mindy is the one ending the season in a personal dilemma, not Emily.

While Netflix has not officially announced a sixth season, the cast and creator are hopeful. The Season 5 finale teases future adventures, possibly in Greece. Gabriel sends Emily a postcard asking her to meet him there.

In interviews, both Collins and Park have shared ideas for a Greek storyline. Park suggested that a potential trip could be for Mindy’s bachelorette party. Collins expressed hope for a new season but clarified that Emily is currently in a stable place romantically, while Gabriel is the one who seems unsure.

“I hope we get to go to another season, and I hope Iโ€™m going to plan her bachelorette in Greece,” Collins said, discussing Mindy’s engagement.

Fans online have also embraced the “Emily in Greece” idea, with social media comments imagining the show set against the backdrop of Greek islands.

Away from the cameras, Ashley Park and Lily Collins share a close, real-life friendship that began when the show started. Park played a special role at Collins’ 2021 wedding to director Charlie McDowell, performing a song during the ceremony.

“It was for a really meaningful part of the ceremony, and that was probably the most nervous and honored Iโ€™ve ever been,” Park said about singing at the wedding.

Collins described their immediate connection as a “magnetic experience” and a “soul sistership”. This off-screen bond likely contributes to the authentic portrayal of Emily and Mindy’s complex, supportive friendship on the show.
