Smith confirmed that Season 8 will explore a romantic relationship between Muriel, played by Teryl Rothery, and Everett, Mel’s biological father played by John Allen Nelson. Cody Kearsley, who joined the show in Season 7 as Jack’s farmhand Clay, will continue to appear in Season 8. His character will keep searching for his missing sister, with Brie helping him in the investigation. Smith said the show will explore sibling themes through both Clay’s story and the relationship between Jack and Brie.
The relationship between Doc and Hope will also face challenges in the new season. Hope kicked Doc out of their home after a major argument about his decision to partner with a corporate hospital. Her complicated friendship with her ex-husband Roland will continue to develop, putting additional strain on her marriage.
