The wait is finally over for fans of the satirical superhero series. Amazon Prime Video released the first two episodes of The Boys Season 5 on April 8, 2026, marking the beginning of the end for this wild, bloody, and thought-provoking show. The fifth and final season picks up right after the dramatic events of Season 4, with Homelander now controlling the country and The Boys scattered and imprisoned. The premiere episode, titled โFifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite,โ brings back nearly all the major players while introducing some new faces to the chaos.
Returning Main Cast Members in the Season 5 Premiere
The core group of characters who have been fighting corrupt Supes since 2019 are all back for the final ride. Karl Urban returns as Billy Butcher, the vengeful leader of The Boys who now has temporary powers from Compound V. Butcherโs mission to wipe out all Supes using a deadly virus drives much of the tension in Episode 1. Jack Quaid is back as Hughie Campbell, who finds himself in serious trouble early on, imprisoned inside one of Voughtโs โFreedom Campsโ alongside his teammates.
Laz Alonso returns as Motherโs Milk, the tactical brains of the group who is also locked up. Tomer Capone reprises his role as Frenchie, the weapons expert with a troubled past. Karen Fukuhara returns as Kimiko, the silent but deadly fighter who, in a surprising development, can now speak. Erin Moriarty is back as Annie January (formerly Starlight), who leads a resistance movement against Homelanderโs regime while trying to break her friends out of prison.
The Seven and Other Key Characters in Episode 1
The villains and morally questionable characters are just as important as the heroes. Antony Starr delivers another chilling performance as Homelander, the most powerful Supe on Earth who now answers to no one. Episode 1 shows Homelander at his most dangerous, hunting down anyone who opposes him.
Jessie T. Usher returns as A-Train, the fastest man alive who finally turned against Homelander in Season 4. His character arc reaches a critical point in the premiere. Chace Crawford is back as The Deep, Homelanderโs loyal and insecure aquatic Supe. Nathan Mitchell returns as Black Noir II, who continues to serve Homelander without question.
Susan Heyward reprises her role as Sister Sage, the smartest person on the planet who helps Homelander maintain control through manipulation and strategy. Valorie Curry returns as Firecracker, the talk show host and Homelander supporter who runs โThe Truth Bombโ program. Colby Minifie is back as Ashley Barrett, who transformed at the end of Season 4 after taking Compound V.
New Additions to the Cast
Daveed Diggs joins the series as a series regular in Season 5. He plays Oh-Father, a deeply religious Supe who is engaged to Vice President Barrett. His character adds another layer of absurdity to the showโs satirical take on politics and power.
John Noble appears in Episode 1 as Sam, Butcherโs father. This brief but important scene gives viewers a glimpse into Butcherโs traumatic past. Rosemarie DeWitt joins the cast as Daphne Campbell, though her role expands later in the season.
Major Character Death Shakes Up the Premiere
The Season 5 premiere does not hold back. A-Train meets his end at the hands of Homelander in a powerful and emotional scene. His death is a full-circle moment that references back to the very first episode of the series. In the pilot, A-Train carelessly ran through Hughieโs girlfriend, killing her. In the premiere, he carefully dodges an innocent woman while running from Homelander, causing him to trip and allowing the villain to catch him.
Eric Kripke, the showโs creator, explained the decision to kill off A-Train in the first episode. The writers convinced him that a major death early on would show viewers that no one is safe in the final season.
โYou need to set up that this seasonโs dangerous and that youโre willing to kill people as early as the first episode, and then you just will never know what to expect from that point forward,โ Kripke said.
Jessie T. Usher, who played A-Train, kept the secret for about a year. He said he was satisfied with how his characterโs journey ended, noting that sacrifice was the only way for A-Train to truly redeem himself.
Other Confirmed Cast Members for Season 5
Several other actors will appear throughout the season, even if they are not in Episode 1. Jensen Ackles returns as Soldier Boy as a series regular, exploring his complicated father-son relationship with Homelander. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is also confirmed to appear. Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins, who starred with Ackles on Supernatural, will make guest appearances in Episode 5, playing characters Kripke describes as โdouchebags.โ
Characters from the spinoff series Gen V are expected to show up later in the season, though Kripke has said the focus remains on The Boysโ main cast.
