The Comeback Season 3 Episode 5 is arriving soon on HBO and Max. The show starring Lisa Kudrow returns after a decade for its final run, and Episode 5 will continue the chaos of Valerie Cherish’s latest Hollywood disaster. Episode 4 ended with major trouble for Valerie, setting up more problems for the upcoming episode.
Episode 4 of The Comeback Season 3 dropped on April 12, 2026. The episode showed Valerie dealing with a messy situation. Her new sitcom “How’s That?!” is being written by artificial intelligence. This created big problems for her. The writers Mary and Josh are not happy about the AI situation. Mary told Valerie she wants the project to fail because she does not want AI to take her job.
Valerie also got bad news about her husband Mark, played by Damian Young. She learned that Finance Dudes wants to fire Mark. He is not good at his fake job. The episode ended with Valerie’s friend Billy, played by Dan Bucatinsky, sending a private recording to NuNet without her permission. Valerie did not want this to happen. Now she must deal with the results.

What Happened in Episode 4
Episode 4 of The Comeback Season 3 showed Valerie’s worst fears coming true. She thought AI was helping the writers, not doing all the work. But she found out that NuNet, the streaming company, is letting AI write most of the scripts. Mary and Josh are barely involved.
Mary told Valerie she wants the project to fail. She does not want to teach AI how to do her job. This shocked Valerie because NuNet had told her that Mary and Josh were working with the AI as a team. The truth is much worse.
Valerie also lost Jimmy, played by guest star Andrew Scott. Jimmy was helping make the pilot episode enjoyable. But after the taping, Jimmy said he will not continue with the project. He does not like that AI is writing the scripts. He also said the work is not fun for him.
The episode ended with Billy sending a recording of Valerie’s complaints directly to NuNet. Valerie had trusted Billy to help her. But he sent the recording without asking her. Now NuNet has proof that Valerie is unhappy with the AI situation. This will likely cause more trouble in Episode 5.
The Storyline So Far
The Comeback Season 3 is the final season of the show that first aired in 2005. The second season came out in 2014. Now, after 12 years, Lisa Kudrow returns as Valerie Cherish, the actress who never gives up on fame.
In this season, Valerie gets what looks like her biggest break. She lands the lead role in a new sitcom called “How’s That?!” She also becomes an executive producer. But there is a catch. The show’s scripts are being written by artificial intelligence. Valerie does not like this at all. She wants real writers to create real comedy.
The show uses its signature mockumentary style. Cameras follow Valerie around as she tries to fix everything. But as always with Valerie, her attempts to help usually make things worse.
Amy Gravitt, executive vice president for HBO and Max Comedy Programming, said this about the season:
“No matter what the industry throws at her, Valerie Cherish is a survivor. On the 20th anniversary of her debut, Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow have brilliantly scripted her return to HBO.”
