Ahn Eun Jin has shared her thoughts on her upcoming KBS drama A Love Other Than Yours. The actress spoke about why she chose the project and her working relationship with co-star Seo Kang Jun.
The drama tells the story of a couple who have been dating for ten years. They start facing unexpected emotional changes in a relationship that once felt completely familiar.
Ahn Eun Jin plays Lee Mi Do, a former independent film director who has lost her confidence. Her projects kept falling through, leaving her self-esteem at rock bottom. She has loved Namgoong Ho, played by Seo Kang Jun, for a long time. But she finds herself torn between her dreams and her relationship because of real-life struggles.
Why Ahn Eun Jin Chose This Drama
Ahn Eun Jin said the script immediately grabbed her attention. When she first read it, she kept thinking, “What will happen to Mi Do now?” She felt she could connect with her character and bring her to life on screen.
The actress explained that the drama is different from typical romance stories. She said, “It is not a beautiful fairy tale but a story about realistic dating, love, and growth that explores the inner lives of people that anyone can relate to regardless of generation or era”.
She pointed out that many romance dramas show characters making beautiful and morally right choices. But this drama takes a different path. “It delves into the emotions that you absolutely never want to be discovered in detail,” she said. The story does not hide what the characters are feeling inside.
Building Chemistry with Seo Kang Jun
Since the drama focuses on a long-term couple, Ahn Eun Jin knew that showing natural chemistry with Seo Kang Jun was very important. She believed that any awkwardness between the two characters would make the story less believable.
Before filming started, the two actors did many group script readings together. They also made an effort to get to know each other personally and become comfortable with one another.
Ahn Eun Jin said that as filming continued, their chemistry became more and more natural. “At first, we talked a lot to become comfortable with each other, but now we’re so in sync that we hardly need any explanation,” she shared.
She described their connection using the Korean phrase “Koong hamyeon Jjak,” which means they just click perfectly without needing words.
The actress also praised Seo Kang Jun for his kindness on set. “He’s the type of person who is very considerate on set, which allowed me to act even more comfortably,” she said. She added, “I was really grateful to him from the beginning because he made sure I never had to feel conscious of him or watch his reactions”.
Seo Kang Jun Shares His Thoughts on the Drama
Seo Kang Jun also spoke about the project through a written interview. He plays Namgoong Ho, a devoted boyfriend who has spent ten years dreaming of a happy future with Lee Mi Do.
When he first came across the project, the character of Namgoong Ho immediately caught his eye. He described the character as someone delicate and kind, but with a cool-headed side that comes from a strong inner self. He felt like a real person who could actually exist somewhere, rather than just a made-up character.
Seo Kang Jun explained why he chose this drama. “While most dramas offer fantasy or fill emotional voids, ‘A Love Other Than Yours’ is grounded in reality,” he said. He added, “It’s a story about life and growth through the universal theme of love, which made me fully immerse myself in it”.
The Meaning of Love in the Drama
For Namgoong Ho, love means sacrifice. Seo Kang Jun described his character as someone who “works, saves money, and endures societal absurdities—all for a future with Mi-do”. He is willing to give up anything for his partner.
To bring this character to life, Seo Kang Jun focused on keeping his expressions simple and sincere. “I avoided overacting,” he said. “I wanted his deep thoughts and struggles to be expressed through his eyes rather than words”. He constantly thought about the emotions and life beyond what was written in the script.
Their On-Screen Chemistry
Both actors agree that their chemistry is a major highlight of the series. Seo Kang Jun said the phrase “we just click” was the first thing that came to mind when thinking about working with Ahn Eun Jin.
They focused on showing the comfort that comes naturally to a long-term couple. “We talked a lot about expressing the comfort unique to a long-term couple who can understand each other without having to say anything,” Seo Kang Jun explained.
Even during scenes that needed deeper emotions, their interpretations matched perfectly. “I felt reassured and happy every time we acted together,” he said.
What Viewers Can Expect
Ahn Eun Jin described A Love Other Than Yours as a drama people can turn to when they find themselves wondering whether their relationship is heading in the right direction. She believes viewers will see different kinds of love and feel the value of the person beside them.
Seo Kang Jun believes the drama will allow viewers to deeply connect with all the characters. He mentioned emotions like jealousy, boredom, love-hate, understanding, and sacrifice—feelings that anyone who has loved can relate to.
“The series portrays the turbulence that arises from familiarity and boredom, yet the deep history of a long-term couple that you can’t escape will move and inspire you,” he said.
