Akshay Kumar has paid tribute to late veteran actor Asrani by sharing his final shot from the upcoming film ‘Haiwaan’ . The actor took to Instagram on September 4, 2026, to post a clip featuring the comedy legend in what he called his “last ever shot.”
The clip shows Asrani in a funny exchange with actor Sharib Hashmi. When Sharib asks his name, Asrani’s character replies “Hussain.” Sharib then asks about his surname, saying, “Aage peeche kuch hai nahi kya?” (Don’t you have anything before or after your name?) Asrani’s character quickly responds, “Peeche hawaldaar hai aur aage aap hain” (There’s a police constable behind me and you’re in front of me).
Sharing the clip, Akshay Kumar wrote:
“My good fortune that I got to work with this legend and see him give his last ever shot in Haiwaan. Miss you, Asrani ji…there can be no one like you.”
Asrani’s Final Screen Appearance
Asrani, whose real name was Govardhan Asrani, passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 84 following a prolonged illness. The veteran actor, known for his comic timing and memorable performances, appeared in over 350 films across a career spanning more than five decades.
Haiwaan marks his final on-screen appearance. According to reports, Asrani filmed for the movie just five to six days before his death. The film’s release on September 11, 2026, will give audiences one last chance to see the legendary performer on the big screen.
Fans reacted emotionally to the clip. One commented, “One last screen presence of Asrani ji.” Another wrote, “We all will miss you but never forget you, sir. Lots of respect and love.” A fan also said, “It’s indeed a privilege to look at him one last time. Legendary Asrani ji… I am so glad Priyadarshan always took him in his movies.”
Akshay and Asrani’s Long Association
Akshay Kumar and Asrani worked together in numerous films over the years. Their collaborations include Hera Pheri (2000), Awara Paagal Deewana (2002), Garam Masala (2005), Deewane Huye Paagal (2005), Bhagam Bhag (2006), Phir Hera Pheri (2006), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), Welcome (2007), De Dana Dan (2009), Khatta Meetha (2010) and Bhooth Bangla, among others.
Their on-screen partnership spanned more than two decades, with Asrani often appearing in comic roles alongside the superstar. The veteran actor’s ability to deliver witty one-liners and his expressive performances made him a favourite among audiences and filmmakers alike.
About Haiwaan
Haiwaan is directed by Priyadarshan and serves as the Hindi remake of his 2016 Malayalam film Oppam, which starred Mohanlal in the lead role. The film brings together Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan on screen after more than a decade. The two actors were last seen together in Tashan (2008).
In this version, Saif Ali Khan plays a visually impaired martial artist who finds himself protecting a young girl while being pursued by a dangerous psychopath, played by Akshay Kumar. The film also features Boman Irani, Saiyami Kher, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Rajpal Yadav, Sharib Hashmi, Rajesh Sharma and Manoj Joshi in important roles.
Haiwaan is produced by Venkat K Narayana and Shailaja Desai under KVN Productions and Thespian Films. The film is scheduled to release worldwide in theatres on September 11, 2026.
