Peacock’s thriller series ‘All Her Fault’ has become a massive hit, and creator Megan Gallagher recently opened up about the one TikTok comment that made her realize she perfectly captured the realities of motherhood.
The show, which stars Sarah Snook and Dakota Fanning, has resonated with audiences worldwide. It pulled in 46 million hours viewed in its first three weeks, making it Peacock’s biggest original series launch to date. The series has also earned seven Emmy nominations, including nods for Sarah Snook and Dakota Fanning.
But for Gallagher, the true measure of success came from social media. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she shared that a specific TikTok comment stood out above all others.
“The nicest response that I saw was a comment on TikTok that said, ‘These are two of the worst husbands I’ve ever seen on television and neither one of them was having an affair.’”
What ‘All Her Fault’ Is About
‘All Her Fault’ is based on Andrea Mara’s bestselling novel of the same name. The eight-episode limited series follows Marissa Irvine (Sarah Snook) , a working mother whose five-year-old son Milo goes missing after what was supposed to be a simple playdate.
When Marissa arrives to pick up her son, she discovers she is at the wrong house. The woman who answers the door does not have Milo and has never heard of him. What follows is a twisty psychological thriller that uncovers secrets about everyone in Marissa’s circle, especially her husband Peter (Jake Lacy) .
The cast also includes Dakota Fanning as Jenny, another mother caught up in the nightmare, along with Michael Peña, Abby Elliott, and Sophia Lillis.
Why The Show Hits So Close To Home
While the kidnapping plot is gripping, what has truly connected with viewers is the show’s honest look at motherhood and the “mental load” that women carry.
Gallagher, who is a mother of 14-year-old twins, did not need to do research to understand the challenges of being the default parent. She drew from her own experiences and those of women around her.
“Every woman I know between the ages of about 35 and 50, roughly, has had at least one crying breakdown in the parking lot outside of their kids’ school, between drop-off and rushing to work, or rushing out of work for pickup.”
The series explores how both Marissa and Jenny are working mothers who worry they are to blame for what happened. Marissa did not double-check a phone number about the playdate. Jenny hired the nanny who turned out to be responsible for the kidnapping.
Gallagher wanted to show that these women carry guilt even when they have resources like nannies.
“Although having a nanny unquestionably makes your life a million times easier, it doesn’t alleviate the guilt. You can’t buy something to get rid of the guilt. You can’t buy your way out of the fact that you can’t be two places at once.”
Social Media Reactions And The TikTok Comment
The show sparked huge conversations on social media, particularly on TikTok. Viewers dissected every detail, especially the behavior of the husbands on the show.
Gallagher noted that even the smallest feminist details she included were noticed and discussed online.
The TikTok comment about the husbands being the worst ever seen on television, despite neither having an affair, struck a chord with Gallagher. She explained that infidelity is not always the most hurtful thing a partner can do.
Other social media users shared similar feelings. One person wrote on Threads: “the PRIVILEGE of being a mediocre man is insane to me lol I literally couldn’t stand the husband’s in this series”. Another viewer commented that Jenny’s husband thought he could be a “part-time parent in his own home”.
The show’s depiction of parental exhaustion and the unequal division of labor at home has been widely praised.
Behind The Scenes: Creating The Show
Gallagher, whose credits include the BBC miniseries Wolf, wanted to adapt Andrea Mara’s novel because it sparked both her practical and emotional sides. She was drawn to the relationship between Marissa and Jenny and what the story could say about working mothers.
Getting Sarah Snook to star was a key goal. Gallagher knew she needed an actress who could handle intense emotional scenes without getting lost in the crying.
“The way that we cry, the way that we emote, the way that we break down, it’s not universal. So I wanted an actress who could handle all that, not just somebody who would be a good crier but somebody who’s really sophisticated.”
Snook, who became a parent herself before filming, used her own experiences to connect with the role. She said it was useful to think about what it would be like if the situation happened to her. However, she could not fully picture her daughter in place of Milo. “It’s too hard, it’s too much,” she said.
The show was shot in Melbourne, Australia, but is set in Chicago. Gallagher explained that they chose Chicago because it felt more universally American and relatable compared to cities like New York or Los Angeles.

‘All Her Fault’ has received significant critical acclaim. The series earned seven Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Lead Limited/Anthology Actress for Sarah Snook and Outstanding Supporting Limited/Anthology Actress for Dakota Fanning.
