Anne Hathaway and her husband Adam Shulman are expecting their third child together. The Oscar-winning actress shared the news on June 19, 2026, through an Instagram video showing her cradling her baby bump. The 43-year-old star captioned the post, “x Baby, I’m yours x,” with the Barbara Lewis song “Baby I’m Yours” playing in the background.
The couple are already parents to two sons, Jonathan Rosebanks Shulman, born in March 2016, and Jack Shulman, born in November 2019. Hathaway’s pregnancy announcement comes at a busy time in her career, as her upcoming films include “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” “Mother Mary,” and “The Odyssey.”
Who Is Adam Shulman, Anne Hathaway’s Husband?
Adam Shulman is an actor, producer, and jewellery designer who has largely stayed out of the Hollywood spotlight despite being married to one of the industry’s biggest stars. He studied theatre at Brown University and participated in NYU’s Tisch School summer program before graduating in 2003. His early acting credits include “American Dreams” and the television film “The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning.”
Over time, Shulman expanded into film production. He worked alongside Hathaway on the 2014 independent drama “Song One,” which she starred in while he served as a producer. Reflecting on their professional collaboration, Hathaway told People magazine:
“At first, I was curious how it would go. People always say don’t work with your spouse. But I loved working with him. He’s really good at this, and he’s a wonderful producer. And I feel like I actually learned a lot from him in the process.”
How Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman Met
The couple first crossed paths in 2008 through mutual friends at the Palm Springs Film Festival. At the time, Hathaway was navigating a difficult period following her highly publicised split from former boyfriend Raffaello Follieri. Despite the circumstances, Hathaway felt an immediate connection. She told Harper’s Bazaar UK:
“I knew from the second I met him that he was the love of my life. I also knew that I couldn’t have met him at a worse time.”
After dating for about three years, Shulman proposed in November 2011. He designed Hathaway’s engagement ring with the help of jewellery company Kwiat, creating a six-carat emerald-cut diamond ring. They married in a private ceremony in Big Sur, California, in September 2012.
Adam Shulman’s Career in Jewellery Design
Shulman found a creative calling in jewellery design after befriending designer Heidi Nahser Fink while Hathaway was filming “Alice in Wonderland.” Fink encouraged him to explore jewellery design professionally. In 2011, they launched James Banks Design, named after Shulman’s maternal grandfather, who also designed jewellery.
The company’s signature piece, called the Lightkeeper pendant, came from an intimate moment between Shulman and Hathaway. While she was filming in London and he worked in theatre in New York, she told him she missed having “the lights in her life.” Shulman explained to 1stdibs:
“When Annie was on a long shoot in London and I was doing theater work in New York, she told me, ‘I don’t feel like I have the lights in my life,’ and so the company’s trademark piece, called the Lightkeeper, was created.”
Once people saw Hathaway wearing the pendant, demand grew, and James Banks Design was officially born.
Anne Hathaway’s Journey to Motherhood
Hathaway has been open about the challenges she faced on her path to becoming a mother. In 2015, while performing in the off-Broadway play “Grounded,” which required her to act out giving birth on stage each night, she experienced a miscarriage. She later told Vanity Fair in 2024:
“The first time it didn’t work out for me. I was doing a play, and I had to give birth onstage every nightโฆ It was too much to keep it in when I was onstage pretending everything was fine. I had to keep it real otherwise.”
When announcing her second pregnancy in July 2019, Hathaway also addressed infertility struggles on Instagram, writing:
“All kidding aside, for everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love.”
She told Vanity Fair that posting something “all the way happy” would have felt dishonest given how difficult her journey to motherhood had been.

Family Life Away from the Spotlight
Hathaway and Shulman have deliberately kept their children out of the public eye. Speaking to PORTER in 2023, Hathaway explained that children need the freedom to build their own lives and identities. She has also said that becoming a mother changed her perspective completely. In a 2022 interview with WSJ Magazine, she stated, “I didn’t feel fully landed and fully here until I was a mom.”
The couple even have matching “M” tattoos to symbolise their relationship. Hathaway explained on The Drew Barrymore Show:
“The idea is that individually we’re whole, but together we’re more. I don’t expect him to complete me and he doesn’t expect me to complete him. I’m my own person. He’s his own person and we choose to be together because we believe we make each other better.”
Hathaway’s “The Devil Wears Prada” co-star Emily Blunt praised Shulman during an interview with Elle, calling him “home away from the storm of fame that she lives with.”
