Marvel Studios has given fans their first proper look at Avengers: Doomsday through official concept art. The artwork was shown at the Shanghai Expo and later shared online by Andy Park, the former director of visual development at Marvel Studios. The image brings together an enormous cast of characters from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, the returning original X-Men cast, the Fantastic Four, and multiple teams of Avengers.
The concept art is not a movie poster but a marketing illustration that shows what the characters will look like in the film. Park described it as the final full film he led as Director of Visual Development at Marvel Studios before being laid off in April 2026 as part of Disney’s company-wide cuts.
Doctor Doom Takes the Center Spot
Robert Downey Jr. returns to the Marvel universe, but not as Iron Man. He plays the villainous Doctor Doom (Victor von Doom). The concept art gives the clearest view yet of Doom’s mask and costume. He stands right in the middle of the artwork, towering over all the heroes.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shared how Downey reacted when offered the role. Feige said Downey’s exact words were: “I played the best hero… I can play the best villain”.
Downey’s casting as Doctor Doom created a huge buzz when it was announced. The concept art now confirms his look for the movie.
Loki Hidden at the Center of Everything
One of the most interesting details in the concept art is Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston. He appears right underneath Doctor Doom. Loki sits on his throne at the foot of Yggdrasil, where he maintains the multiversal timelines.
Loki became the God of Stories at the end of Loki season 2. He now holds the multiverse together. Many fans believe Doctor Doom will need to deal with Loki to control the multiverse. The concept art places Loki in a key position, suggesting he will play a major role in the film.
Hiddleston has kept quiet about his character’s role. He told GQ that the film is something he cannot talk about yet.
Three Hero Teams Unite in the Artwork
The concept art splits the heroes into three main groups with different background colors.
The New Avengers (Green Background)
This group includes the team formerly known as the Thunderbolts. The lineup features:
- Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) holding Mjolnir
- Thor (Chris Hemsworth) with short hair and Stormbreaker
- Ant-Man (Paul Rudd)
- Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan)
- Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh)
- Red Guardian (David Harbour)
- US Agent (Wyatt Russell)
- Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen)
- Sentry / Bob Reynolds (Lewis Pullman)
Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers with long hair and a beard, much like his look in Avengers: Infinity War.
The X-Men (Purple Background)
The original X-Men cast from the 2000s films returns. The concept art shows:
- Professor X (Sir Patrick Stewart)
- Magneto (Sir Ian McKellen)
- Cyclops (James Marsden)
- Mystique (Rebecca Romijn)
- Beast (Kelsey Grammer)
- Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming)
- Gambit (Channing Tatum)
Channing Tatum’s Gambit appears in the concept art. Tatum was set to play Gambit in a solo film that never happened. He finally gets to play the character in Avengers: Doomsday.
The Fantastic Four and Other Heroes (Blue Background)
This group includes:
- Mister Fantastic / Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal)
- Invisible Woman / Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby)
- Human Torch / Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn)
- The Thing / Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach)
- Captain America / Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie)
- Falcon / Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez)
- Black Panther / Shuri (Letitia Wright)
- M’Baku (Winston Duke)
- Shang-Chi (Simu Liu)
Steve Rogers and Reed Richards stand closest to Doctor Doom in the artwork. This suggests both heroes will have important roles opposing Doom.
Missing Characters and What It Means
Some major Marvel characters do not appear in the concept art. Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) are noticeably missing. Captain Marvel, Hulk, and Namor also do not appear.
It remains unclear whether these characters will appear in the film or if Marvel is keeping their involvement a surprise. Deadpool and Wolverine are heavily rumored to feature, but they are not shown in the concept art either.
Three Earths Collide in the Multiverse Saga
Avengers: Doomsday serves as the culmination of the Multiverse Saga. The movie will involve three separate Earths:
- Earth-616 (the main MCU timeline)
- Earth-828 (from The Fantastic Four: First Steps)
- Earth-10005 (the Fox X-Men universe)
This explains why characters from different franchises appear together. The concept art confirms that heroes from all three Earths will join forces against Doctor Doom.
Fan Reactions to the Concept Art
Social media lit up after the concept art appeared online. Fans expressed excitement about seeing so many characters together.
One X user wrote: “Loki vs Doctor Doom is the interaction I’m waiting for the most”.
Another fan posted: “Can’t wait to see how powerful Doctor Doom is”.
A third user commented: “These are actually insane Doctor Doom vs God Loki and Thor/Steve Rogers teaming up? Marvel is COOKING for Doomsday”.
The concept art also sparked discussions about Loki’s role. Many fans noticed his hidden position at the center of the image and began theorizing about his importance in the story.
Andy Park Shares His Experience
Andy Park shared the concept art on his social media accounts. He wrote about his experience working on the film:
“AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY was the final full film I had the opportunity to lead as Director of Visual Development at Marvel Studios. It was truly an honor, and I was grateful to commemorate that journey with this marketing illustration which officially reveals, for the first time, the characters and their looks in the film. This one was definitely a beast to paint, but I genuinely enjoyed every minute of it.”
Park worked at Marvel since 2010. He was laid off in April 2026 along with the rest of the visual development team. Despite the layoffs, he shared the artwork he created for the project.
