Netflix’s dark comedy Beef returned for its second season on April 16, 2026. This time, the show leaves the road rage behind and moves to a wealthy country club in Montecito, California. The new season introduces a completely fresh story with a new cast. Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Cailee Spaeny, and Charles Melton lead the eight-episode season.
The premiere episode, titled “All The Things We’re Never Going to Have,” sets up a tense conflict between two couples. One couple appears to have everything, while the other is just starting out. A simple task to return a lost wallet turns into a nightmare when they witness something they were never supposed to see.
A Glimpse Behind the Perfect Facade
Beef Season 2 Episode 1 starts at a fancy fundraiser at the Monte Vista Point (MVP) club. Josh Martin (Oscar Isaac) runs the club as the General Manager. His wife, Lindsay Crane-Martin (Carey Mulligan), works as an interior designer at the same venue. They look like the perfect, successful couple as they greet wealthy guests.
Working at the event is a younger couple, Austin Davis (Charles Melton) and Ashley Miller (Cailee Spaeny). Austin is a personal trainer who picks up shifts at the club. Ashley works there full-time. They are newly engaged and seem very much in love.
Once the guests leave and the glamour fades, the truth comes out. Driving home, Josh and Lindsay start arguing. Josh forgot Lindsay’s birthday again. The fight gets worse when they reach their large house. Lindsay reveals she gave Josh her entire inheritance to pay for his sick mother’s medical bills. She is angry that they haven’t been physically close for nearly a year. Their argument quickly becomes physical, with things breaking around them.
The Shocking Discovery
Back at the club, a supervisor gives Austin a task. Josh left his wallet behind, and the couple must drive to his house to return it. Austin and Ashley arrive at the massive estate and are shocked by how rich their bosses are. When no one answers the front door, they hear loud, disturbing noises coming from a shed on the property.
Ashley and Austin walk toward the noise. Looking through a window, they see Josh and Lindsay in a terrifying physical fight. At one point, Josh grabs a golf club and appears ready to swing it at Lindsay. Ashley pulls out her phone and starts recording the entire incident as evidence.
The couple’s dog starts barking, alerting Josh and Lindsay to their presence. Josh and Lindsay spot Austin and Ashley watching them through the window. Scared, Austin and Ashley run back to their car and drive away as fast as possible.
The Aftermath and Rising Tensions
On the drive home, Ashley panics while watching the video. Austin wants to call the police immediately. Ashley refuses because she is terrified of losing her job at the club. She worries Josh will fire her if he finds out they saw the fight.
The next morning, Josh gathers all the staff to prepare for the visit of the club’s new owner, Chairwoman Park (Youn Yuh-jung). During the meeting, Josh stares directly at Ashley the entire time. She feels targeted and panic-texts Austin, fearing her boss knows about the video.
Later, Austin decides to take action. He goes back to Josh’s house alone to speak with Lindsay. He offers to help her and report the violence to the police. Lindsay rejects his help completely. She says their fight was normal. She warns Austin that couples who never fight are the ones hiding secrets. This comment makes Austin feel uneasy about his own relationship with Ashley, since they never argue.

At the country club, Josh corners Ashley on the golf course. He indirectly threatens to fire her if she tells anyone about the fight. A scared Ashley agrees to stay silent.
Meanwhile, Ashley experiences severe stomach pain. She visits a doctor and receives terrible news. She has an ovarian cyst that needs surgery. The doctor warns that if not treated, it could become life-threatening and affect her ability to have children. Ashley is shaken but decides not to tell Austin immediately.
At the same time, the new owner, Chairwoman Park, arrives for a tour. Lindsay proudly shows off her interior design work, but Park rejects all of it. She demands a complete redesign and wants to hire someone else. This is a major professional blow for Lindsay.
Back home, Ashley finally tells Austin about the cyst and the surgery. She also admits she does not have a high school degree or health insurance. Without insurance, she cannot afford the surgery. Feeling trapped, Ashley looks at the video on her phone. She and Austin realize they can use the video to get a promotion from Josh, one that includes health benefits.
The episode ends with Ashley and Austin standing at Josh and Lindsay’s front door, holding cookies. They have a plan, and the fight between the two couples is just beginning.
