Bigg Boss 20 contestant Kushal Tanwar, known to audiences as Gullu, has confirmed a secret chapter of his life that he had kept hidden for years. During a conversation with fellow contestant Qazi Touqeer in the latest episode, Gullu admitted that he was married and that the marriage ended in divorce within just four to five months. The divorce was completed in 2024, he revealed. The two-time reality show winner also shared that his family cut ties with him after he chose to end the marriage, and that his wedding photos were leaked online while he was still competing on Roadies.
The revelation came during the third week of Bigg Boss 20, which airs on Colors TV and streams on JioHotstar. Gullu, who won MTV Roadies XX: Double Cross and MTV Splitsvilla X6 back-to-back, had never publicly spoken about his marriage before this episode.
What Gullu Said About His Marriage and Divorce
Talking to Qazi, Gullu described the experience as more than a heartbreak. “I had a serious heartbreak. Not something like a breakup, I had a divorce,” he said. He revealed that the marriage lasted around 4.5 to 5 months and was an arranged setup driven by family pressure.
“I got divorced in 2024. It was a very depressing phase. I was married for 4-5 months. Everyone thought it was wrong and I kept trying but then I understood it wasn’t working. On our side, marriages happen early, and I had to marry because of my family.”
Gullu explained that in his community, young men face pressure to marry early if they are not settled in a career. He said he went along with the decision but quickly realised it was not right for him.
“I have come out of something really difficult. I somehow managed to escape from there. I was married for about four and a half to five months. In our community, people still tend to get married at a young age. There is pressure that if you are not doing anything else, you should just get married.”
He also admitted that he was not in love with the woman he married. According to Gullu, telling anyone about his situation would have turned into gossip, and people would have judged him for getting divorced.
The Leaked Wedding Photo That Changed Everything
Gullu’s marriage remained a secret until a wedding photo was leaked on a WhatsApp group while he was in Goa celebrating his Roadies win with friends. He recalled seeing the photo at around 1:30 am and thinking his career was over.
“I was in Goa with the Roadies gang and someone leaked out images. I thought it was a game over for me. I didn’t know what to do.”
At that point, the divorce had not been finalised. Gullu said he was pushing for separation while his family wanted him to stay in the marriage. The leaked photo made the situation public before he was ready to talk about it.
Family Cut Ties Over His Decision
Gullu shared that his decision to divorce led to a major rift with his family. They stopped talking to him, and the legal process took nearly a year to complete.
“There was a fight in which I wanted divorce and my family was against it. My family members had cut me off completely at that time. All of this took a year to settle these matters. It took a toll on me but I am finally out of all of this.”
He added that his family was worried about what society would say. Over time, however, they came around. Gullu said they are now proud of what he has achieved.
He Had Called the Wedding Photos Fake Earlier
When the wedding pictures first went viral during his Roadies stint, Gullu reportedly dismissed them as fake. He neither confirmed nor denied the marriage at the time. The latest episode of Bigg Boss 20 has now contradicted that earlier statement, with Gullu openly admitting the photos were real and that he was indeed married.

Kushal Tanwar is a content creator and reality TV personality from Gurugram, Haryana. He completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel Management from IHMCT Pune in 2022. Before finding success on television, he co-founded a café and built a following on social media through comedy content.
His Roadies journey was far from smooth. He first auditioned in 2019 dressed as a fake sheikh and was rejected. He returned years later for MTV Roadies XX: Double Cross, where he initially joined Elvish Yadav’s gang, was eliminated by his own teammates, returned as a wildcard under Gautam Gulati’s gang, and eventually won the season. He took home ₹10 lakh and a Hero Karizma bike.
Gullu followed that win with MTV Splitsvilla X6: Pyaar Ya Paisa, where he paired with Kaira Anu. The duo won the season and the ₹20 lakh prize money. It was the first time in the show’s history that audience voting decided the finalists.
