The wait for Bigg Boss 20 is finally over as the makers have opened the doors to the new house. The Salman Khan-hosted reality show is returning with its milestone 20th season, and this time, the house itself is the biggest talking point.
Built around the idea of duality, the Bigg Boss 20 house takes familiar objects and turns them into something completely unexpected. From a giant teapot that pours into a couch to an octopus holding chess pieces, every corner of the house has been designed to surprise. The season premiere is scheduled for September 6, 2026, and will stream on JioHotstar at 9 PM and air on Colors TV at 10:30 PM.
The house spans 10,000 square feet and has 104 cameras keeping watch over every move the contestants make. After designing the Bigg Boss house for 19 years, Omung Kumar has handed over the responsibility to art director Varsha Jain. Jain has previously designed houses for Bigg Boss in South India and also created the set for Anil Kapoor’s show India Ke Top 1 Percent.
A Surreal Alice in Wonderland-Inspired World
The Bigg Boss 20 house follows a surreal baroque aesthetic, with each space using a different colour palette. The design draws clear inspiration from Alice in Wonderland, blending dreamlike elements with reality.
“We wanted to explore the idea of duality by taking objects and symbols that audiences instantly recognise and reimagining them in unexpected ways so that a teapot becomes a couch, an octopus becomes a chess player, and a hot-air balloon becomes a space to gather.” – Varsha Jain, Art Director
The Mad Hatter figure was the first element Jain imagined for the space. She explains that the house is meant to feel like stepping into a dreamscape where reality and imagination coexist. Each wall has a different accent colour, from the bedroom to the living area to the exterior, creating illusions throughout the house.
The Giant Teapot Couch and Octopus Chessboard
One of the most striking features inside the Bigg Boss 20 house is a giant pink teapot with its spout flowing into a couch, creating an unusual seating space. This installation turns a familiar kitchen object into a functional piece of furniture that perfectly captures the playful and surreal design language of the season.
Another standout element is a magnificent octopus holding chess pieces in its tentacles. The installation brings together two contrasting ideas – the unpredictability of the ocean and the calculated strategy of chess. It reflects the psychological and strategic gameplay that remains at the heart of Bigg Boss.
A hot-air balloon has been transformed into a cosy seating space. Usually associated with flight and escape, the balloon now serves as a grounded and functional area for contestants to gather. A surreal tap with flowers emerging from it adds another quirky detail, combining utility, nature and beauty in an unexpected visual.
The Mystery of Room No. 20
This season introduces Room No. 20, which remains the biggest mystery of the house. Unlike the rest of the house, its purpose and details have been kept completely secret. What lies inside the room will be revealed after a few weeks.
There is also Room 2X, which has two mysterious doors – one regular and one mini door. According to sources, the 2X door has a connection to the Jeevandaan theme, where contestants will be placed in pressure pods and asked to reveal truths or make confessions. The one who survives will get an extra lifeline in the game.
Messages appear throughout the living space in adherence to this year’s duality theme and the signature “Tathas-two” . These include “Make every life count”, “Tathas 2”, and “Inn Deewaron Ke Aankhein Hain”.
Shark Pool, Food Truck Kitchen and Other Highlights
The garden area features a shark-themed swimming pool, adding a playful touch to the lawn. A floral tap beside it grabs attention, as does a giant gorilla above the bathroom entrance. A tree with a snake wrapped around it doubles up as a seating option.
At the entrance, a ringmaster statue welcomes contestants, who must walk through its legs before entering the living area. The living room is one of the most chaotic spaces, with a large sofa taking centre stage and a 12-seater dining table in the corner. Behind the dining table is a big parachute that offers additional seating. A pink teapot-shaped throne that looks like it is spilling hot chocolate adds to the whimsical feel.
The kitchen area is designed like a food truck with wheels underneath and a ‘BB Food Truck’ banner on top. The bedroom extends the fantasy-led design with pastel shades, oversized mushrooms, floral patterns and a detailed hanging chandelier. There are a total of 8 beds, including two large beds that can accommodate three contestants each. The centre round seating area has been designed like a beehive-like prop.

The washroom area has been kept as simple as possible, featuring a neon pink bunny rabbit standing upside down, with two chimpanzees hanging above the space. Eyes appear prominently across the design, serving as a reminder that nothing goes unseen inside the Bigg Boss house.
Bigg Boss 20 premieres on September 6 on JioHotstar and Colors TV.
