Billy Bob Thornton has directly addressed and shut down online rumors about him leaving the hit Paramount+ series Landman. After his character, Tommy Norris, was fired in the show’s second season, speculation spread that Thornton might exit the series. In a new interview, the actor called these reports “AI-generated crap” and confirmed his commitment to the show for its upcoming third season.
The neo-Western drama, co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, was officially renewed for a third season on December 5, 2025. This renewal came just weeks after the season two premiere set a record for Paramount+, drawing over 9.2 million streaming views in its first two days.
Thornton Calls Out False Reports and Confirms His Return
Recent rumors suggested Thornton might be departing Landman following a major plot twist for his character. Tommy Norris was fired from his position as president of M-Tex Oil by owner Cami Miller, played by Demi Moore. This narrative development led to online speculation about the actor’s future on the show.
Thornton addressed these rumors clearly in an interview with USA Today. He grouped the false story about his exit with other fabricated reports, including one claiming he and Moore were a couple.
“There’s an AI report that Demi and I are a couple now, and there’s one that I’m leaving the show,” Thornton said. “They have nothing to do with reality.”
The Oscar-winning actor left no doubt about his plans, confirming that production for the new season is set to begin soon. “A third season will begin shooting this spring and Thornton insists, ‘I’ll be there.’” He expressed his long-term dedication to the series, stating, “I’ll be here as long as it plays out. If it’s five years, great. If it’s six, I’m there.”
How Season Two Set the Stage for a New Beginning
The season two finale, which aired on January 18, 2026, concluded several storylines while launching Tommy Norris into a completely new venture. After his firing, Tommy decides to start his own company, CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle. The company’s name comes from the initials of the Norris men: his son Cooper, himself, and his father, T.L..
To get his new company off the ground, Tommy makes a high-stakes deal with cartel boss Danny “Gallino” Morrell, played by Andy García. Gallino agrees to be an equal partner but warns Tommy that if their partnership fails, he will take “what he loves most in this world”. Tommy also recruits several former M-Tex colleagues, naming his son Cooper as president of the new company while he takes the role of senior vice president.
Showrunner Christian Wallace described the upcoming season as a “reset” for the series. The story will now focus on Tommy, his father T.L. (Sam Elliott), and Cooper running their own small, family-operated business instead of working for a large corporation.
The Main Cast Expected to Return
While Paramount+ has not released an official cast list for season three, most of the main ensemble is expected to return. Key cast members likely to reprise their roles include:
- Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris
- Ali Larter as Angela Norris, Tommy’s ex-wife
- Michelle Randolph as Ainsley Norris, Tommy’s daughter
- Jacob Lofland as Cooper Norris, Tommy’s son
- Sam Elliott as T.L. Norris, Tommy’s father
- Demi Moore as Cami Miller
- Paulina Chávez as Ariana Medina
- Kayla Wallace as Rebecca Falcone
- James Jordan as Dale
- Andy García as Gallino
Ali Larter celebrated the season three renewal on Instagram, writing, “So excited to announce we are coming back for season 3! Thank you to the fans that have made Landman such a massive success.”
Production Details and Potential Release Timeline
Filming for the third season is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026. Wallace noted that the production schedule is slightly later than previous years, which presents a challenge due to the West Texas heat where the show films.
“When we get back into production this year, it’s going to be pretty full on, and just getting hotter,” Wallace told The Hollywood Reporter. “That’s the big struggle from a production standpoint… Twelve-hour days in 100-plus degree weather is no joke.”
An official release date has not been announced. However, based on the show’s previous pattern—Season 1 debuted in November 2024 and Season 2 in November 2025—it is likely that Landman Season 3 will premiere in November 2026.

The Show’s Future Amid Taylor Sheridan’s Move
Some fans questioned the stability of Landman after news broke that co-creator Taylor Sheridan signed a new five-year deal with NBCUniversal. However, showrunner Christian Wallace assured that the series plan remains unchanged.
Wallace explained that Sheridan’s existing contract with Paramount+ continues for some time, and the team is moving forward as usual. “We still have a lot of runway,” he said. “We’re just going to keep doing exactly what we’ve been doing. Nothing at all has changed.” He added that after two seasons, the creative team feels they have “barely skimmed the surface” of the stories they can tell in the world of West Texas oil.
