After more than five years of waiting, the Black Clover anime is officially making its comeback. The new season, officially titled Black Clover Season 2, will premiere in October 2026 as part of the Fall 2026 anime lineup. Crunchyroll will stream the new season exclusively outside of Japan, bringing Asta and the Magic Knights back to screens worldwide.
The original Black Clover anime ran for 170 episodes from October 2017 to March 2021 before going on an abrupt hiatus during the middle of the Spade Kingdom Raid arc. The series returned with the feature film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King in 2023, but fans have been eagerly awaiting the continuation of the main story ever since. Now, that wait is finally ending.
Ayataka Tanemura Returns as Director for Season 2
Studio Pierrot has confirmed that Ayataka Tanemura will direct the new season, replacing Tatsuya Yoshihara as the lead director. Tanemura is a franchise veteran who directed the final episodes of the first season (episodes 153-170) and the 2023 film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King. Yoshihara is reportedly staying involved with the production as a key animator.
The production team for Season 2 also includes Keiichiro Ochi overseeing the scripts, Itsuko Takeda and Kumiko Tokunaga handling character designs, and Minako Seki composing the music. The anime will shift to a seasonal format, moving away from the weekly schedule that characterized the original run.
Manga Is Complete and Ready for Adaptation
The timing of the anime’s return is significant for fans. Creator Yuki Tabata finished the Black Clover manga in May 2026, meaning the anime studio finally has the complete source material available to adapt without needing to speculate about the ending. The manga originally launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015 and ran for nearly nine years before moving to Jump Giga in December 2023. A total of 36 volumes have been released in Japan.
What to Expect From the Spade Kingdom Raid Arc
Season 2 will pick up directly from where the first season left off in manga chapter 270. The story will continue the Spade Kingdom Raid arc, where Asta and the Magic Knights launch a rescue mission to save Captain Yami Sukehiro and William Vangeance. The Dark Triad, a trio of devil-possessed royals, had abducted both captains to use them in the Tree of Qliphoth ritual, which aims to open a portal to the underworld.
The new season will cover the remaining chapters of the arc, extending to approximately chapter 331, and will feature major story developments including Asta’s Devil Union form, the war against the devils, and the revelations about Asta’s powers and lineage.
“Witness the New Legend” – the tagline for the new season sets the tone for an action-packed sequel.

To help fans prepare for the return, a 10-minute recap video covering the events of the first season has been released on YouTube. The recap was previously shown exclusively at the Black Clover Exhibition venues in Tokyo and Osaka.
Fans attending Anime Expo 2026 at the Los Angeles Convention Center from July 2-5 can catch an early screening of the first episode on July 4. The panel will also feature Gakuto Kajiwara (voice of Asta) and director Ayataka Tanemura.
Global Streaming and Fall 2026 Lineup
Crunchyroll will stream the new season globally, adding it to its existing library of all 170 previous episodes in both subtitled and dubbed formats. The second season joins a packed Fall 2026 lineup that also includes Tokyo Revengers: War of the Three Titans Arc, The Apothecary Diaries Season 3, and several other major titles.
