Blake Lively and Taylor Swift Friendship Strained as Singer Gets Pulled Into Legal Battle With Justin Baldoni

Blake Lively and Taylor Swift’s longtime friendship has reportedly “halted” as the singer gets dragged into Lively’s legal drama with Justin Baldoni. The It Ends With Us co-stars are locked in a bitter lawsuit, with Baldoni subpoenaing Swift in May 2025. Her team denies any involvement in the film beyond licensing her song “My Tears Ricochet”.

Lively sued Baldoni in December 2024, accusing him of sexual harassment and orchestrating a smear campaign against her. Baldoni denied the claims and countersued for $400 million, alleging defamation and extortion by Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds. Court documents reveal Swiftโ€™s name was mentioned multiple times by both sides.

Baldoniโ€™s legal team subpoenaed Swift, claiming she might have information about Livelyโ€™s alleged pressure tactics. Livelyโ€™s lawyers called the move a publicity stunt. A judge later struck down Baldoniโ€™s claims that Lively threatened to leak private texts if Swift didnโ€™t publicly support her.

Swiftโ€™s spokesperson stated she had no creative role in It Ends With Us and only allowed her song in the trailer. Sources say Swift is upset about being dragged into the legal mess. Meanwhile, Lively has been seen out with family and friends, seemingly unfazed by the drama.

The legal battle began during the making of It Ends With Us, based on Colleen Hooverโ€™s novel. Lively starred in and produced the film, while Baldoni directed and co-starred. Tensions reportedly started when Lively pushed for script changes, leading to disputes over creative control.

In her lawsuit, Lively claimed Baldoniโ€™s team mentioned Swift while planning damage control. Baldoniโ€™s legal filings included texts where Lively allegedly referred to Swift as one of her “dragons,” comparing herself to Khaleesi from Game of Thrones.

Baldoniโ€™s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, claimed in a court letter that Lively pressured Swift to support her publicly. The letter was later dismissed by the judge as “improper” and meant to create “public scandal.” Livelyโ€™s lawyer, Mike Gottlieb, denied the claims, calling them “categorically false.”

Swiftโ€™s legal team is fighting the subpoena, arguing itโ€™s an unnecessary burden. A spokesperson said:

“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie. She was not involved in any casting or creative decisions. She did not score the film. She never saw an edit or made any notes on the film. She did not even see โ€˜It Ends With Usโ€™ until weeks after its public release.”

The dispute has affected Swift and Livelyโ€™s friendship, which dates back to 2015. Swift is the godmother to Lively and Reynoldsโ€™ children. Sources say they are “taking some space” but havenโ€™t ended their friendship completely.

Another close friend, Gigi Hadid, has reportedly sided with Swift. A source said:

“Gigi is closer to Taylor and has definitely taken her side in this whole drama. Gigi doesn’t want to get involved but has distanced herself from Blake.”

Livelyโ€™s other friends, including America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel, and Amber Tamblyn, publicly supported her when she first filed the lawsuit. Meanwhile, Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy have stayed neutral but remain friendly with Lively and Reynolds.

Baldoniโ€™s legal team insists the subpoena is necessary for their case. They claim Swift might have evidence about Livelyโ€™s alleged attempts to control the filmโ€™s production. The trial is set for March 2026, with no signs of an out-of-court settlement.

Lively recently attended an event with her sisters, posting a cheerful photo on Instagram. She has not publicly commented on Swiftโ€™s involvement in the case. Meanwhile, Swift continues to focus on her music career after wrapping up her record-breaking Eras Tour in late 2024.

The case has exposed behind-the-scenes tensions in Hollywood, where power struggles and legal battles often play out publicly. With high-profile names involved, the drama is far from over.
