Prime Video has officially renewed Carrie for a second season. The announcement came on October 22, 2026, only 15 days after the eight-episode first season arrived on October 7 and shot to the top of the streaming service in more than 105 countries. Mike Flanagan returns as showrunner, and Stephen King stays on as executive producer. The story will move past the famous prom night and into new territory.
A Quick Renewal Backed by Strong Numbers
Season 1 dropped all eight episodes at once. The debut reached number one on Prime Video across the globe, a result the streamer called an “impressive debut”. Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, said the show is pulling in both old and new viewers.
“Carrie is connecting with both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation altogether — including young adults and international audiences, with particular strength among female viewers.” — Peter Friedlander, Amazon MGM Studios
The first season stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan as her mother, Margaret. The supporting cast includes Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder, and Matthew Lillard. Kate Siegel, a regular in Flanagan’s projects, appeared in the finale and is expected to return in a larger role for Season 2.
The Story Moves Past the Book
The first season ended on a major change from Stephen King’s 1974 novel. Carrie survives the prom disaster and leaves town with Emaline (played by Thalia Dudek), another teenager with powers. That ending opened the door for a story that the book never told.
Season 2 will follow that new path. Prime Video’s announcement teased “new revelations,” “major character arcs,” and “plenty of shocking twists”. Mike Flanagan has said he pictured the series as a three-season story from the start.
“In my dream scenario … I think it’s three seasons. In my dream scenario, I think Carrie has a wonderful three-step arc. It’s a trilogy, really.” — Mike Flanagan, at a premiere event
Both Flanagan and King shared their excitement about continuing the story.
“For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story. From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next.” — Mike Flanagan
“I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White. Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It’s bound to be thrilling.” — Stephen King
