The waiting game for K-drama fans is finally over. Cha Seung Won and Kim Do Hoon have officially signed on to lead tvN‘s upcoming action-comedy drama ‘Retired Agent + Management Team’ (literal title). The news has spread quickly across entertainment news sites, confirming what many hoped for since the initial talks in late 2025. This new series promises a mix of spy action, comedy, and a strong buddy dynamic between two very different agents.
Confirmed Cast and Characters for the New Spy Drama
Production teams have verified both lead roles. Cha Seung Won will play Kim Chul Soo, a former National Intelligence Service (NIS) black agent. His character now lives a quiet life running a neighborhood car wash and being a regular family man. Even though he left his exciting past behind, he still holds a strong passion for field work.
Kim Do Hoon takes on the role of Go Yo Han, a young and talented “super ace” agent. He got attention for his great skills when he first joined the NIS. But instead of going on missions, he gets sent to the basement-level Retired Agents Management Team. His character struggles to get back to active duty and wants to prove himself again.
The drama comes from director Jin Chang Kyu, who worked on ‘Buried Hearts’ and ‘Military Prosecutor Doberman’. The writing team includes Kim Min Sung and Song Han Na, who also wrote ‘A Bloody Lucky Day’ together.
Story Details: From Different Worlds to One Team
The two men come from completely different places in life. Kim Chul Soo (Cha Seung Won) is a former legend who now washes cars for a living. Go Yo Han (Kim Do Hoon) is a young hotshot stuck doing paperwork for retired agents. They end up working together to find a traitor who has been hiding behind a criminal organization for a long time.
One wants to reclaim his old glory. The other wants to finally work as a real field agent. Their different goals and ages create a lot of funny arguments and rough teamwork. The production team says the “bickering chemistry” between a retired veteran and a rookie will be a main source of entertainment.
The production team shared their thoughts on the casting:
“We feel reassured by the pairing of Cha Seung Won, who brings solid acting skills, and Kim Do Hoon, who has a commanding presence. As a retired NIS agent and a rookie agent, their bickering chemistry and rough teamwork will be key points of entertainment.”
Release Schedule and Where to Watch
‘Retired Agent + Management Team’ is scheduled to air in the second half of 2026 on South Korean cable network tvN. While an exact premiere date has not been announced yet, the summer to fall 2026 window is the current target.
For global audiences, streaming details will likely be confirmed closer to the release date. Given tvN‘s partnerships, the series is expected to be available on platforms like TVING domestically and possibly Netflix or Disney+ for international markets, though no official global streaming deal has been confirmed at this time. Updates will follow as the broadcast date gets closer.
