You probably recognized the actress who played Dr. Charles’ therapist in the latest Chicago Med. The role of Dr. Daria Schlessinger was played by Allison Miller, an actress known for several major television roles. This character appeared in Season 11, Episode 8, titled “Triple Threat,” which premiered on January 7, 2026.
Allison Miller: The Actress Behind Dr. Daria Schlessinger
Allison Miller is an American actress with a career spanning nearly two decades. She first gained industry attention with roles in soap operas like General Hospital and guest spots on shows such as Desperate Housewives and Boston Legal. A significant early film role came in 2009 when she appeared alongside Zac Efron in the comedy 17 Again.
Her television career includes starring in the short-lived NBC series Kings and playing major roles in series like Go On, Selfie, and Incorporated. For many fans, Miller is best known for her role as Maggie Bloom, a therapist and breast cancer survivor, on the ABC drama A Million Little Things. She appeared on the show for its entire five-season run.
Speaking about that role to Miami Living Magazine, Miller highlighted her commitment to authenticity:
“Preparing to play Maggie, I talked to real breast cancer survivors. It makes the role much more accessible when I get to hear all of their personal stories. It makes me commit to the authenticity of the experience. I have a responsibility. I can’t half a*s it.”
More recently, before her Chicago Med appearance, Miller was seen in a Law and Order episode that aired last year.
Dr. Daria Schlessinger’s Role in “Triple Threat”
In “Triple Threat,” Dr. Daria Schlessinger serves as a therapist for Dr. Daniel Charles, played by Oliver Platt. The episode sees Dr. Charles grappling with the emotional weight of a case involving a patient waiting for a heart transplant. During his session, he even mentions thoughts about retiring.
Dr. Schlessinger’s character is perceptive, sensing that Charles is not being fully open about his feelings. Her instinct is proven right when, later in the episode, Dr. Charles suffers a panic attack after a confrontation with his colleague, Dr. Justin Morris (played by Lee Jones). This scene shows a more vulnerable side to the typically composed head of psychiatry, highlighting the importance of Dr. Schlessinger’s role in helping him acknowledge and process his stress.

The midseason premiere, which included Miller’s episode, featured a major storyline involving Dr. Lenox and Dr. Ripley. They found themselves held hostage by an abusive husband, a situation that forced them to make a difficult moral decision to protect his victim.
Showrunner Allen MacDonald discussed this pairing, noting it was inspired by wanting to see which characters hadn’t interacted much.
“The idea behind pairing Lenox and Ripley was simply that we hadn’t seen them before. And the writers in the writers’ room and I got very excited about the possibilities of how they would get along.”
