FTISLAND’s Choi Minhwan has finally spoken out after police cleared him of allegations related to soliciting prostitution and sexual misconduct. On November 29, 2024, the Seoul Gangnam Police Department announced that the case would not be forwarded to prosecutors due to a lack of evidence, effectively putting an end to a month-long investigation that had captivated the public.
Minhwan Expresses Regret and Apologizes to Fans
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Minhwan addressed his fans directly, apologizing for the distress caused by the allegations. He explained his decision to remain silent throughout the investigation, stressing the difficulty of dealing with false accusations and public speculation.
“Countless articles were spilled, spreading one-sided claims and false facts as if they were true. I believed it would only worsen the situation if I spoke prematurely.”
Minhwan also shared the emotional toll the situation took on him and his family, particularly his three young children, expressing his desire to protect them through these trying times. He extended his apology to his fans and fellow FTISLAND members, saying,
“I am truly sorry for the pain and difficulty I’ve caused. I deeply regret my actions and am reflecting on them.”
The Allegations and Investigation
The allegations, which surfaced on October 24th, 2024, were brought to light by Minhwan’s ex-wife, Yulhee (a former member of LABOUM). She accused Minhwan of visiting adult entertainment venues and presented audio clips that seemed to suggest he had solicited prostitution. Furthermore, she alleged inappropriate behavior in front of their family.
In response, Minhwan temporarily stepped back from his public commitments and was removed from ongoing broadcasts. However, as the investigation unfolded, it was revealed that Yulhee had declined to cooperate with the police several times, raising doubts about the validity of her claims.
Minhwan’s Promise to Fans
Despite the controversy, Minhwan ended his message on a hopeful note, promising to grow and be more responsible moving forward. He thanked fans for their unwavering support during the challenging time and vowed to emerge from the situation as a more mature individual.
The couple, who married in 2018, share a son and twin daughters but divorced in December 2022 amid ongoing personal and public struggles.
