Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 arrives on Netflix on October 20, 2026, and it brings a completely new crew to Night City. The biggest question for viewers is simple: do you need to watch Season 1 or play Cyberpunk 2077 first? The answer is no. Season 2 is a standalone story with new characters, so newcomers can start here without missing a beat. This guide covers the release details, the new story, the cast, and what to know before pressing play.

Release Date and Time for Global Viewers

Netflix will release all 10 episodes of Season 2 at once on October 20, 2026. The drop happens at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Here is what that means for different regions:

  • United States (Eastern Time): 3:00 a.m. ET on October 20
  • United Kingdom: 8:00 a.m. GMT on October 20
  • Canada: 3:00 a.m. ET on October 20
  • Australia: 6:00 p.m. AEDT on October 20
  • India: 12:30 p.m. IST on October 20

The series streams only on Netflix. No other platform or broadcast partner has been announced.

A New Story, Not a Continuation

Season 1 followed David Martinez, a street kid who became a mercenary and met a tragic end. Season 2 does not continue his story. The new season follows four separate characters whose lives become tangled in Night City.

Weak Kingsley is a washed-up cyberpunk legend. He is now forced to live without chrome, the cybernetic implants that define life in Night City, and he is searching for purpose in a world that has moved past him.

D is a deadly nomad from the Snake Nation. He sets out on a path of revenge to hunt the killer who wiped out his clan. His search brings him close to corporate secrets that were never meant to be found.

Roman Carax is a young cinephile chasing real stories in a brutal world. Talia Yang was raised in corporate towers but hardened by the Maelstrom gang. She is more machine than human, and her story looks at the line between identity and technology.

The official synopsis describes Season 2 as a story of “family, obsession, legacy, and how your lens reflects the stories of the people around you”.

The Voice Cast in Japanese and English

Season 2 features a fresh voice cast for both language tracks.

  • Weak Kingsley: Kentaro Tone (Japanese) / Clancy Brown (English)
  • D: Koki Uchiyama (Japanese) / Nazeeh Tarsha (English)
  • Roman Carax: Momoka Terasawa (Japanese) / Valeria Rodriguez (English)
  • Talia Yang: Akari Kito (Japanese) / Kimoy Lee (English)

The supporting cast includes Akemi Okamura as Avida, Takashi Matsuyama as Sal, and Miho Okasaki as Jessie, among others.

Studio Trigger and the Team Behind the Series

Studio Trigger returns to animate Season 2, working with CD Projekt Red, the studio behind Cyberpunk 2077. Kai Ikarashi directs the season. Masahiko Otsuka handles series composition, and Kanno Ichigo is the lead character designer. Bartosz Sztybor serves as showrunner and story writer.

The first season won a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form, which raised expectations for the follow-up. The new season aims for a “more raw, brutal take” on the Cyberpunk world.

What to Know About Night City Before Watching

Even though Season 2 is standalone, a quick understanding of Night City helps. The city is a fictional megacity on the coast of California, divided into six districts controlled by powerful corporations. Cybernetic body modification is everywhere, corporate warfare is constant, and the gap between rich and poor is extreme.

The Cyberpunk universe was created by Mike Pondsmith as a tabletop role-playing game before it became a video game and an anime. The world runs on a simple rule: survival costs everything, and the people who chase glory in Night City rarely get a clean ending.

A Quick Recap of Season 1 for Context

Season 1 is not required viewing, but knowing the basic story helps explain the world Season 2 lives in. David Martinez was a poor student at Arasaka Academy whose mother died because she could not afford proper medical care. He found a military-grade implant called the Sandevistan among her belongings and had it installed, giving him superhuman speed.

The implant led him to Lucy, a netrunner, and a mercenary crew led by Maine. David joined the crew, fell in love with Lucy, and kept adding more cyberware despite the warnings. Maine lost control from cyberpsychosis and died in a final explosion. David took over the crew, but his story ended when Adam Smasher executed him at Memorial Park, allowing Lucy to escape and reach the Moon.

Season 2 does not pick up those threads. It starts a new chapter with new people in the same unforgiving city.
