Amazon Prime Video’s new action-comedy Deep Cover has surprised everyone with its near-perfect 95% Rotten Tomatoes score. The film, released on June 12, 2025, is now one of the highest-rated comedies on the platform. Critics and fans are calling it the “funniest movie of the year” with standout performances from Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nick Mohammed.
The movie follows Kat (Bryce Dallas Howard), an improv comedy teacher who gets recruited by an undercover cop (Sean Bean) to help with sting operations. She brings along two of her students (Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammed), and the trio ends up in dangerous, hilarious situations.
“Deep Cover is comedy gold. Orlando Bloom is at his best here, delivering one of the funniest performances in years,” wrote a fan on Rotten Tomatoes. Another viewer added, “I laughed so hard I almost cried. This is the kind of comedy we’ve been missing!”
Critics praise the film’s fast-paced humor, strong cast, and clever script. The Hollywood Reporter called it “a relentlessly silly film that works because of its stars’ commitment to the bit.” Meanwhile, Empire gave it 4 stars, highlighting its “twisty crime story and great performances.”
The movie is currently #2 on Prime Video’s Top 10 list, just behind The Accountant 2. Fans are already asking for a sequel, with many saying the chemistry between the leads is perfect.
“Deep Cover doesn’t reinvent the genre, but it offers pure fun. For anyone looking for a great comedy, this is a must-watch,” said a critic from Inverse. The film’s audience score is 80%, slightly lower than the critics’ rating but still very strong.
Bryce Dallas Howard’s performance is getting special praise after her last film, Argylle, disappointed critics. “This proves Howard can carry a quirky, fun movie. She’s hilarious here,” noted a review from Collider.
The supporting cast includes Ian McShane, Paddy Considine, and Sonoya Mizuno, adding more star power. The film is directed by Tom Kingsley, known for British comedies like Ghosts and Stath Lets Flats.
“30 minutes in, and I knew this was the funniest movie of the year. The trio’s reactions to insane situations had me in stitches,” tweeted one viewer. Another fan wrote, “Stumbled upon Deep Cover and was blown away. The laughs just keep coming!”
With its high ratings and strong word-of-mouth, Deep Cover is shaping up to be one of Prime Video’s biggest hits of 2025. If you’re in the mood for a fast, funny, action-packed comedy, this is the one to watch.
