The world of Mirzapur is making a big move from the small screen to the big screen with Mirzapur: The Movie. The film brings back many familiar faces, but one return has created the most noise—Divyenndu is back as Munna Bhaiya. The character was believed to be dead after the second season of the popular Amazon Prime Video series. At the film’s trailer launch in Mumbai on August 11, Divyenndu spoke about his comeback in his signature style. He joked that killing off Munna Bhaiya was a “mistake” and reminded everyone that he is a “Hindi film hero” who is “immortal”.
Divyenndu’s Statement on Munna Bhaiya’s Return
During the trailer launch event, Divyenndu was asked how he felt about returning to the Mirzapur universe. The actor, known for his witty one-liners, did not disappoint the crowd. He said in his trademark swagger, “To begin with, it was a mistake, and everyone agrees. I am a Hindi film hero; I am immortal; nothing can happen to me”. The comment quickly became one of the highlights of the evening.
For those who have followed the series, Munna Tripathi’s death was a major turning point. In the final episode of Season 2, Munna got into a fight with Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal) and Golu Gupta (Shweta Tripathi). Golu shot him several times, and his body was later taken away by the duo. His death marked the end of one of the show’s most memorable and unpredictable characters.
Now, with his return in the movie, fans are curious about how the makers have brought him back. Divyenndu’s playful remark adds to the mystery surrounding the film’s storyline.
The Trailer Launch Event
The trailer launch of Mirzapur: The Movie was held in Mumbai on August 11. The event was attended by the entire cast, including Pankaj Tripathi (Kaleen Bhaiya), Ali Fazal (Guddu Pandit), Rasika Dugal (Beena Tripathi), and others. The excitement was high as fans and media gathered to see the first look of the film.
When Ali Fazal joined the stage, he was thrilled to hear the crowd chanting for his character, Guddu Bhaiyya. He said, “This corruption is real; all the fans are infected. There is a huge team in the Mirzapur family; I congratulate all of them”.
Other cast members also shared their thoughts. Shweta Tripathi, who plays Golu, spoke about the show’s take on violence. She said, “My character doesn’t like silence and violence… From Mirzapur, I have learnt that whoever chooses violence does get punished. Like Golu and Shweta, I just urge fans to enjoy the violence on screen”.
Shriya Pilgaonkar, who returns as Sweety, expressed her gratitude. She said, “The first season of Mirzapur, when Sweety died, I didn’t think I would enter the Mirzapur-verse once again. So I feel very grateful”.
Newcomer Sonal Chauhan, who is joining the franchise, said she is excited to be part of the film. “I am going to bring a storm in Mirzapur; whatever you see is going to leave you mind-blown. I am sure every Mirzapur fan will have a blast,” she added.
Producer Farhan Akhtar Credits the Fans
Producer Farhan Akhtar also spoke at the event and credited the audience for making the film possible. He said, “The viewers of this show, it is because of their love that this has happened. They have supported the show from the time it was first released… People do ask about different films and sequels, but wherever I go, they always ask me when Mirzapur is coming”.
He added that the demand for a theatrical version came directly from the fans. “Ever since this film was announced, people have been asking when it will be released. So, it is the fans who have demanded this movie. We are very happy and grateful to have put it together with the original cast and the amazing new cast,” Farhan said.
Farhan also recalled a fun memory with writer Puneet Krishna. He joked, “When Puneet first came to us, our first instinct was to take him to a psychiatrist, but then we thought if we made the show, people could get into it”.
