The third episode of Doctor on the Edge aired on June 8, 2026, on ENA at 10 PM KST. The medical romance drama starring Lee Jae Wook as Do Ji-ui and Shin Ye Eun as Yook Ha-ri continues to show the struggles of a city doctor trying to survive on a remote island. Episode 3 brought more trouble for Ji-ui when the village chief publicly accused him of lying, while Ha-ri traveled to Madeokdo with Hyun Chiyeon and ended up dealing with a dangerous dog bite.
Village Chief Dumps Trash on Ji-ui and Accuses Him of Insurance Fraud
The episode starts exactly where the previous one ended. The village chief, Park Chun Sik (played by Woo Hyun), arrives at the ferry terminal, throws trash at Ji-ui, and calls him a liar right in front of everyone. The chief explains that his insurance company told him he has angina, not a myocardial infarction. Because of this, they refuse to cover his 15 million KRW medical expenses.
Ji-ui tries to defend himself. He tells the chief that angina leads to a heart attack if not treated properly. He also reminds the chief that giving him antacids instead of proper treatment would have killed him. But the chief does not want to listen.
Miss Hwang later warns Ji-ui that the village chief is not someone who backs down from a fight. She turns out to be right. The chief orders everyone on the island not to work with the health center team, especially Ji-ui. He also makes the health center staff clean up trash near the ferry point as punishment.
The situation starts to weigh heavily on Ji-ui. Under all the pressure, he decides he wants to leave the island after finishing his required posting.
Ji-ui Learns About Jang-suโs Past Heart Condition
While dealing with the village chief, Ji-ui also has problems with Lee Jang-su (played by Kim Ki Chun). Jang-su keeps complaining that Ji-ui only gave him three days of medicine. When Ji-ui suggests that Jang-su go to the mainland for X-rays and more tests, Jang-su strongly refuses.
Ji-ui loses his patience and asks Jang-su to wait outside. But later, Miss Hwang tells Ji-ui about Jang-su’s past heart issues. Realizing the danger, Ji-ui rushes to help Jang-su and takes away his medicines. Slowly, Jang-su starts to understand that Ji-ui is only trying to protect him.
Ha-ri and Chiyeon Go to Madeokdo
While Ji-ui deals with the angry villagers, Ha-ri travels to the nearby island of Madeokdo with Hyun Chiyeon (played by Hong Min Ki). The trip turns dangerous when a dog is brought in for treatment. The dog bites Chiyeon.
It turns out the dog belongs to a woman who believes the animal is her dead son. Chiyeon admits he is afraid of dogs. But before they can leave, the dog gets injured. The team works together to save the animal.
Later, Chiyeon shuts down Jucheon when he complains about the poor setup at the health center. Chiyeon simply tells him they have to manage with what they have. When Jucheon asks Chiyeon for a drink, Chiyeon refuses because he has not slept enough.
Ha-ri Finds Out the Insurance Company Cheated the Village Chief
Ha-ri spends the whole day away from the main island. When she returns, she has good news. She reports that the insurance company tried to cheat the village chief. The insurance company wrongly told the chief he only had angina when his condition was actually more serious.
After learning this, the village chief shows up at the health center with a gift of seafood for the staff. He also leaves a message for Ji-ui that his wife will bring lunch for the staff the next day. This small gesture shows that the chief is starting to accept Ji-ui, at least a little.
Ji-ui Gets Caught at Ha-riโs House
While Ha-ri is away on Madeokdo, Ji-ui tries to reach her. He texts her about a parcel. But things take an awkward turn when Ji-ui slips and gets injured near Ha-ri’s house. Ha-ri’s grandmother finds him, treats his injury, and even saves his contact information.
The next day, Ji-ui searches for Ha-ri, only to learn that she took a day off. Later that night, the two finally meet. They clear up the confusion about a selfie that had caused misunderstandings between them. Ha-ri shows Ji-ui fireflies and apologizes for not being more supportive. Ji-ui asks her why she went to Madeokdo with Chiyeon. Ha-ri says it was because of the distance.
The Love Triangle Starts to Take Shape
Episode 3 quietly sets up a love triangle between Ji-ui, Ha-ri, and Chiyeon. The production team previously shared that viewers will see Do Ji-ui lose his composure as life on Pyeondong becomes even more challenging. They also confirmed that an incident will change Ji-ui’s relationship with the island people, with Ha-ri at the center of it all.
A key moment happens when Chiyeon sees messages on the group chat talking about a new nurse at the health center. The messages describe her as having a mole on her nose and short hair. They call her “Doctor Hunter.” Chiyeon suspects the nurse being discussed is actually Ha-ri. This hints that Chiyeon is paying very close attention to her.
Also at the end of the episode, government official Ko Changmok pushes for stricter action against the island clinic by holding a press conference. This suggests more problems are coming for the health center team.
