The second season of Apple TV+โs hit comedy series The Studio is currently filming in Venice, Italy, and new photos from the set have confirmed that two major Hollywood stars are joining the fun. Donald Glover and Michael Keaton were seen on location, seemingly shooting scenes for the upcoming season.
The sightings happened on March 16, 2026, at the luxurious Hotel Gritti Palace in Venice. Photos show Michael Keaton looking sharp in a tailored tuxedo and bow tie, stepping out onto a balcony while sipping an Aperol Spritz. His outfit gave off a classic Bruce Wayne vibe, a fun nod to his iconic role as Batman in the 1989 film. Donald Glover was also spotted alongside Keaton, wearing a colorful floral-patterned overcoat, adding a stylish contrast to the scene.
These two stars are not the only new faces joining the cast. Pop icon Madonna was also photographed on set, holding a script while sitting in a gondola on Venice’s famous canals. She shared the moment on her Instagram with the caption “The Italian Job.” Additionally, Julia Garner, known for her roles in Ozark and The Assistant, was seen filming in a glamorous plunging gown, further adding to the growing list of celebrity cameos.
What is The Studio About
For those new to the series, The Studio is a comedy created by and starring Seth Rogen. The show takes a satirical look at the modern movie business. Seth Rogen plays Matt Remick, a film lover who gets promoted to the head of a fictional movie studio called Continental Studios. The problem? He has to balance his creative dreams with the cold, hard business demands of keeping the studio profitable.
The first season was a massive hit with critics and audiences. It received 23 Emmy nominations, the most ever for a first-season comedy, and went on to win 13 awards, breaking the record for most wins by a comedy series. It also won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series โ Musical or Comedy.
The show is known for its sharp writing and its long list of celebrities playing exaggerated versions of themselves. The first season featured cameos from directors and actors like Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron, Ron Howard, Zoe Kravitz, and Olivia Wilde.
Returning Cast Members and Production in Venice
The Venice shoot brought back the main cast of the series. Seth Rogen was seen in a cream suit with a red scarf, while Bryan Cranston reprised his role as the ruthless studio CEO Griffin Mill, sporting a burgundy suit and tinted glasses. Bryan Cranston won an Emmy for his guest role in the first season.
Other returning cast members spotted on set include Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders. They were all seen filming scenes outside the historic hotel, looking like they were having a great time working together again.
The Cast Mourns the Loss of Catherine O’Hara
The fun and excitement of filming season two comes after a tragic loss for the The Studio family. Legendary actress Catherine O’Hara passed away on January 30, 2026, at the age of 71. Her cause of death was reported as a pulmonary embolism, with rectal cancer as the underlying cause.
Catherine O’Hara, known for her beloved roles in Beetlejuice, Home Alone, and Schitt’s Creek, played Patty Leigh in the first season, a former studio head and mentor to Seth Rogen’s character. Her performance in The Studio was her final role.
The cast released a statement after her passing, sharing their grief:
“We are at a loss for words at the passing of our friend Catherine O’Hara. She was a hero to all of us, and we pinched ourselves every day that we got to work with her in ‘The Studio’. She was somehow classy, warm, and hilarious all at the same time.”
Earlier in March 2026, Catherine O’Hara posthumously won the Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role. Seth Rogen accepted the award and gave an emotional speech in her honor, calling it a “very sad honour.”
Michael Keaton, who was a close friend of Catherine O’Hara and starred with her in Beetlejuice, recently wrote a tribute to her in Time Magazine. His presence on the set of The Studio season two comes shortly after he honored his late friend. He shared memories of their friendship, writing, “To have a brilliantly funny woman as your friend is special. To have Catherine O’Hara as your friend is a blessing.”
What to Expect in Season Two
While plot details are being kept under wraps, the show’s creators have given some hints about what is coming. Seth Rogen revealed at the Golden Globes that the writers are pulling ideas directly from real-life events. He mentioned that things happening during awards season were being written into the show’s scripts almost immediately.
Seth Rogen also said that the Golden Globes ceremony was a perfect place to find new guest stars. He told reporters:
“This is a good poaching ground for us. There are a few people we roped in tonight.”
With Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Madonna, and Julia Garner now seemingly confirmed for season two, it looks like the show will continue its tradition of featuring huge stars in fun, self-aware roles. It is still unclear whether these actors are playing fictional characters or heightened versions of themselves, which is a trademark of the series.
