The Dutton Ranch season 1 finale delivered everything fans expected from the Yellowstone universe. The episode, titled “El Padrino,” aired on Friday, July 3, 2026, on Paramount+ and left viewers with a massive cliffhanger. The finale packed a surprise pregnancy, multiple deaths, and a kidnapping that changed everything for Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler.

The body count kept rising throughout the season, but the finale took things to another level. Key characters met their end, while others faced uncertain futures. The episode set up major conflicts for a potential second season, which has already been confirmed.

Rob-Will Jackson Meets a Brutal End

The biggest death in the Dutton Ranch finale was Rob-Will Jackson, played by Jai Courtney. Rob-Will got shot in the head execution-style by his own brother, Joaquin Jackson (Juan Pablo Raba). The order came from their father, Mariano Reyes (Raoul Trujillo), who was furious that Beulah named Rob-Will as her successor instead of Joaquin.

The murder happened in Rob-Will’s own home. His daughter Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) later found his body lying by the front door. She saw the tail lights of Joaquin’s car speeding away, but it remained unclear if she realized her uncle was the killer.

Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening) lost two sons in the finale. Her life fell apart as her criminal operation came crashing down around her. The death of Rob-Will marked a turning point that left the Jackson family in ruins.

Carter Gets Kidnapped and Taken to Mexico

Carter (Finn Little) did not die in the finale, but his life hung in the balance. Mariano’s henchmen ambushed Carter while he was getting ready to leave with Oreana. They kidnapped him to provoke Beth and Rip.

Mariano called Beth to let her know he had taken Carter. His men then took Carter across the border to Mexico. The abduction turned the conflict from a business dispute into a deeply personal war.

Carter had run away from home before the finale. Beth spent the episode frantically trying to reach him, but he kept dodging her calls. He eventually camped out at Dwight’s place and apologized for his behavior at the party. Oreana convinced him to call Beth, but he hung up and ignored her pleas to come home.

Oreana’s Pregnancy Complicates Everything

Oreana took a pregnancy test during the finale and found out she was expecting a baby. She did not tell Carter about the pregnancy. The show did not make it clear who the father was. It could be Carter since the two were involved, but Oreana also dated other men before and after Carter.

Oreana made plans to leave Texas with Carter without him knowing she was pregnant. Her father Rob-Will found her packing her bags, which led to a sentimental father-daughter moment. That moment did not last long because Rob-Will got shot shortly after.

The Drug Smuggling Operation Revealed

Beth and Rip discovered the dark truth behind the 10 Petal Ranch. The Jackson family had been using their cattle to smuggle fentanyl from Mexico to the United States. Beth and Rip found around $2 million worth of fentanyl packets sewn inside the cows.

The drug smuggling operation started 15 years earlier when Joaquin brought the idea to Beulah during a deadly drought. What began as a temporary solution became the ranch’s lifeblood. Beulah confessed that she had been doing this work for Mariano and was trying to get out of it.

“Did you think we wouldn’t find out?” a furious Beth told Beulah. “You’re filling cattle with fentanyl and dragging them across the border? Are you out of your fโ€“king mind?”

The Massive Shootout at Dutton Ranch

Mariano ordered his men to eliminate Beth and Rip after they got involved in his drug business. Armed gunmen crept up to Rip and Beth’s ranch at night. A massive shootout broke out during the finale.

Rip got help from his ranch hands, including Zachariah (Marc Menchaca). The ranch crew survived the attack and disposed of the gunmen’s bodies at the Texas Train Station. The train station was the same remote dumping ground the Duttons used in Yellowstone.

The finale ended with Rip and Beth preparing for battle to save their son. Carter’s kidnapping became the one mistake Mariano might never live long enough to regret.

What Happened to Beulah Jackson

Beulah’s entire world collapsed in the finale. She lost her son Rob-Will to a brutal murder. Her drug smuggling operation got exposed. She had been trying to get out of the criminal life, but her past caught up with her.

Beulah had killed Rob-Will’s father decades earlier. Mariano helped dispose of the body, and her father forced Mariano to flee to Mexico and take the blame. She raised Kino as her own son while Mariano stayed away.

Mariano returned 15 years later to save the struggling 10 Petal Ranch. He drew Beulah into the drug smuggling operation she hoped Beth and Rip could help her escape. That hope failed when everything fell apart in the finale.

Season 2 Changes on the Horizon

Dutton Ranch has already been confirmed for a second season. However, the show will look different moving forward. Chad Feehan will not return as showrunner after completing work on season 1. Puck News previously reported that Feehan stepped away after alleged friction with series stars Hauser and Reilly.

“Showrunners change all the time,” Hauser told The Hollywood Reporter. “This business is about adapting. We’ve been doing this for a long time. Things change. People move on.”

Reilly shared a similar view on the shakeup. She said, “It was a really difficult but really satisfying show to make. And so was Yellowstone.”

Both actors expressed interest in returning for multiple seasons. Reilly said, “If the writing is good. You never want to hold on too tightly in this profession, right? So honestly, we’re very grateful to be here and if we get a chance to keep making something we’re proud of, then we’re here.”

Hauser called it “pretty cool” to keep going. He added, “I always feel like if the audience continues to speak the way that they have about the show for the last 10 years or so, then I would love to continue to entertain them.”

Dutton Ranch is available to stream on Paramount+ in the USA. International viewers can check local Paramount+ listings for availability in the UK, Canada, Australia, India and other regions.
