Warner Bros. released a fresh teaser for Dune: Part Three on August 18, 2026, and it finally gives audiences a proper look at one of the most mysterious figures from Frank Herbert’s novels. The 33-second clip does more than just show off new footage. It confirms that Edric, the Spacing Guild Navigator, will appear in the film and offers a haunting glimpse into how the trilogy might conclude.
The teaser arrives as advance tickets for IMAX and premium large-format screenings went on sale. It also sets up what fans are calling “Dunesday” since the movie opens on the same day as Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026.
Edric Finally Speaks After Months of Mystery
The new teaser features a critical scene where Princess Irulan, played by Florence Pugh, approaches a strange coffin-shaped tank filled with orange spice gas. Inside floats Edric, a heavily mutated Guild Navigator. Irulan asks a simple question: “Tell me what lies ahead.”
Edric’s response is brief but heavy with meaning. In a gravelly voice, he replies, “The end.”
This marks the first time audiences hear Edric speak. Earlier trailers and promotional materials had not confirmed whether the character would even appear in the film. The teaser puts those questions to rest while raising new ones about what exactly Edric’s prophecy means for Paul Atreides and his empire.
Who Is Edric and Why Does He Matter?
For viewers who have not read Dune Messiah, Edric might seem like just another strange creature from the desert planet. But book fans know he plays a central role in the conspiracy against Paul.
Edric is a third-stage Spacing Guild Navigator. Guild Navigators consume massive amounts of spice melange to develop the prescience needed to guide giant ships through space. The constant exposure to orange spice gas mutates their bodies over time, turning them into something far removed from ordinary humans. The teaser shows Edric living inside a tank filled with that same gas, which is not just for show. It is what keeps him alive and functioning.
What makes Edric especially dangerous is his own limited prescience. Unlike Paul, whose visions can stretch across many possible futures, Edric has a more focused ability. He can use that power to block Paul from seeing certain events. In the novel Dune Messiah, Edric joins a secret alliance with Princess Irulan, the Bene Gesserit, and the Tleilaxu to weaken Paul and eventually bring down his empire. His presence creates a blind spot around the conspiracy, making it much harder for Paul’s visions to expose the plot.
The teaser appears to show one of those secret meetings. Irulan, who is Paul’s wife in the story, asks Edric about the future. His answer suggests the conspirators might succeed in their goal.
What Else Does the Teaser Show?
Beyond Edric’s reveal, the teaser includes new shots of Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides and Zendaya as Chani. One scene shows them facing each other in what looks like a confrontation. In the books, Chani stays loyal to Paul until the end. But the films have taken a different path. Chani walked away from Paul at the end of Dune: Part Two, and the new footage suggests they remain on opposite sides.
Another shot shows Chani looking terrified as a sandworm approaches. An earlier trailer made it seem like the sandworm might stop and calm down in front of her, but that detail remains unconfirmed.
The teaser also gives a better look at the film’s visual style. Director Denis Villeneuve shot Dune: Part Three with both IMAX-certified digital cameras and IMAX film cameras. It is the only film in the franchise to use both formats. The production team also created a special sound mix specifically for IMAX theaters. Villeneuve has said the film was “dreamed, designed and shot” for IMAX screens.
The Cast and Release Plans
Dune: Part Three brings back most of the main cast from the first two films. Alongside Chalamet, Zendaya, and Pugh, the movie features Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor-Joy, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin. Robert Pattinson joins the franchise as Scytale, a Face Dancer who is part of the conspiracy against Paul.
One detail that remains unclear is who voices or plays Edric. The teaser does not reveal the actor behind the character. Warner Bros. has not made an official announcement about the casting.
The movie will hit theaters on December 18, 2026. However, fans can watch it even earlier. Selected IMAX 70mm theaters across the US and Canada will screen the film starting December 14. Early showtimes in all IMAX theaters begin on December 15. Regular screenings start on December 17 at 2 pm local time.
The film has a runtime of 140 minutes. Its synopsis, according to IMDb, reads: “Emperor Paul Atreides faces the fallout from his ascent to power as political plots and a galaxy-wide holy war endanger the future only he can see.”

What Edric’s Words Could Mean
Edric’s two-word answer has sparked plenty of discussion among fans. “The end” could refer to several things. It might mean the end of Paul’s rule, since the conspirators plan to assassinate him. It could also point to the end of the Atreides empire or even the end of the entire Dune saga as Villeneuve tells it.
Some fans have pointed out that Edric’s limited prescience might not show him the full picture. He might only see fragments of what is coming. That leaves room for interpretation about whether his prophecy will come true exactly as he says.
The teaser also confirms that Villeneuve is staying faithful to the source material in key ways. Edric’s appearance inside the spice tank matches the description from Dune Messiah. His role as a conspirator against Paul aligns with the novel’s plot. For book readers, these details add to the excitement.
The response to the teaser has been strong. Presale demand for Dune: Part Three tickets has surged, with fans facing long queues on ticketing sites. The film is expected to be one of the biggest releases of 2026.
