Kapoor shared a video on Instagram featuring the various actresses who have played the iconic Naagin role over the years. The montage celebrated the show’s television journey while teasing its next chapter.

“Something exciting is coming! #WaitForIt Happy Nag Panchami!” – Ekta Kapoor wrote in her Instagram post.

The video’s text overlay read: “For 11 years, Naagin has ruled the small screen. Now Balaji Telefilms Ltd is ready to take the iconic franchise beyond TV.”

Naagin Season 7 Ended in June 2026

The seventh season of Naagin concluded on June 14, 2026. The season featured Priyanka Chahar Choudhary, Eisha Singh, Namik Paul, and Kanika Mann in lead roles.

Initially, Kapoor had planned to end the show in April 2026, but the channel requested to extend it until her birthday, June 7, 2026. The series finally went off-air on June 14, marking the end of its television run.

The Naagin Television Journey Since 2015

The Naagin franchise first premiered in 2015 with Mouni Roy as the central shape-shifting serpent alongside Arjun Bijlani. The show combined mythology, fantasy, romance, and family drama, quickly becoming one of Indian television’s biggest hits.

Here is the complete list of actresses who played the lead Naagin across all seven seasons:

  • Season 2: Mouni Roy reprised her role
  • Season 3: Surbhi Jyoti took over as the lead
  • Season 4: Nia Sharma headlined, but the season ended early due to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Season 5: Surbhi Chandna became the face of the franchise
  • Season 6: Tejasswi Prakash was selected after winning Bigg Boss 15

Who Will Play the Lead in the Naagin Movie?

The biggest question surrounding the Naagin film is its casting. Ekta Kapoor has not yet revealed the actress who will play the lead role in the cinematic version.

Fans are now speculating whether the makers will choose a major Bollywood star or bring a popular television face to the big screen. The director, storyline, and release date also remain undisclosed.

Interestingly, a separate Naagin film trilogy was announced in 2020 with Shraddha Kapoor attached to star. Vishal Furia was announced as the director and Nikhil Dwivedi as the producer, but that project has not received any major update since then.

Naagzilla and Other Serpent-Themed Projects

The serpent-themed fantasy genre has also attracted attention through other Bollywood projects. Karan Johar’s Naagzilla, starring Kartik Aaryan, was announced as a fantasy comedy centred on a shape-shifting serpent. It was originally scheduled for release on August 14, 2026. The announcement had led to social media comparisons with Ekta Kapoor’s Naagin franchise.

With Ekta Kapoor now confirming the Naagin movie, the franchise is entering a new phase beyond television. The transition to cinema could allow the supernatural saga to explore its world on a larger scale, with bigger production values and visual effects.

The Indian entertainment industry has increasingly seen television concepts being expanded into films and other formats. Naagin’s move to the big screen marks a significant shift for one of the country’s most recognisable supernatural properties.

For now, fans will have to wait for more details about the cast, director, and release plans. Ekta Kapoor’s announcement has confirmed that the iconic franchise is finally ready to make the transition from television to cinema.
