Ella Purnell has confirmed that the new season of Sweetpea is a major step up. The star recently finished filming for Season 2 and says the story is larger in scope and more intense than before.
While talking about her work on Fallout, Purnell shared her feelings about completing the second season of the dark comedy thriller. She wrapped up filming last month. The actress and executive producer described the new episodes as “bonkers” and promised a bigger experience for viewers.
“Iโm exhausted, and it was worth it,” Purnell told Deadline. “It was a really crazy season. Season 1 was quite very small and tame in comparison to how bonkers this season is. Thereโs so much in it. Itโs big.”
What to Expect in the New Season
The official description for Season 2 shows that Rhiannon Lewis’s life is getting more complicated. She is dealing with a new promotion at work and a new romantic interest. At the same time, her sister plans to sell their family home.
Detective Marina Farrar is still investigating and closing in on Rhiannon. A new problem appears when a copycat killer starts operating in her town, which could expose Rhiannon’s own actions. With her list of potential targets growing, Rhiannon starts to question if her ex, AJ, was right about her being a monster.
The creative team behind the show says the new season will raise the stakes.
“This season, the stakes are even higher, and as the consequences of her actions begin to close in, questions of morality and justice will come into play,” said Purnell and executive producers Ella Jones and Patrick Walters in a joint statement.

A Look Back at Season 1
For those who haven’t seen it, Sweetpea is based on the 2017 novel by C.J. Skuse. The show is described as a “coming-of-rage” thriller.
The story follows Rhiannon Lewis, a quiet administrative assistant who feels invisible in her own life. After a series of personal tragedies and frustrations, she decides to take control by eliminating the people who cause her problems. What starts as a reaction to being overlooked transforms into a much darker path.
The first season of six episodes premiered on October 10, 2024, on Sky Atlantic and Starz. It was well-received by critics, earning an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Production Details and Release Information
Filming for Season 2 took place in London and finished recently. The series is produced by See-Saw Films and fanboy in association with Sky Studios.
Ella Jones, who directed the first season, returns to direct episodes 1, 5, and 6 of the new season. Coky Giedroyc (How to Build a Girl) will direct episodes 2, 3, and 4.
While an exact release date has not been announced, reports suggest Season 2 is expected to arrive in 2026. Like the first season, it will be available on Sky Atlantic in the UK and on Starz in the United States. The entire first season is currently available to stream on the Starz platform.
Purnell also talked about the interesting shift between playing her two most famous roles. After finishing Sweetpea, she returned to play the optimistic and moral Lucy MacLean in Fallout.
“Itโs a weird switch to make actually,” Purnell explained. “I was watching Fallout today, and when Lucy does even the slightest thing bad thatโs like so new for her, Iโm like, โRhiannon would do that in a heartbeat.โ Iโm like, โRhiannon can do that.โ”
