The mystery surrounding the deaths at Chimneys deepens in the second episode of Netflix’s new series, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials. Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent digs deeper into the clue left by her dying friend, uncovering not just a hidden London nightclub but a full secret society operating within it. Her investigation shifts from a personal quest for justice into a high-stakes international plot involving a revolutionary scientific formula that multiple governments are desperate to control.
Bundle’s Investigation Leads to a Hidden Club
Determined to understand the meaning of “Seven Dials,” Bundle turns to her friend Bill Eversleigh for information. He reveals it is the name of a popular London nightclub frequented by a mixed crowd of artists, bohemians, and Foreign Office officials. Despite his warnings, Bundle insists they go there immediately.
At the club, Bundle is shocked to see Alfred, a former footman from her family home, Chimneys, now working the door. He claims he left after a disagreement over pay. The club is bustling, a stark contrast to the quiet country life Bundle knows. Her real discovery happens when she slips away from the dance floor. Following a side passage and up a staircase, she finds a locked door. Inside, she discovers a strange room with a large table shaped like a clock face and seven alarm clocks on the mantelpiece—an exact match for the scene after Gerry Wade’s death.
Before she can search further, a group of hooded figures wearing masks with clock faces enters. They sit around the table, each identified by a number. Bundle, hiding, listens as they discuss Ronny’s death and assign a critical task to the member known as “Number 7.” Their mission is to attend a gathering at Wyvern Abbey and “secure Dr. Matip’s formula.”. Bundle now understands “Seven Dials” is not a place, but a powerful and dangerous secret organization.
The Flashback to Ronda and Dr. Matip’s Past
The episode opens with a flashback to Ronda, Spain, in 1920, providing crucial backstory. A man and his sister are seen preparing to meet with Bundle’s father, Lord Caterham. Before they can reach him, they are ambushed by a mysterious woman. The sister is shot and killed, and the man, in self-defense, shoots the attacker and flees with a precious envelope containing his life’s work.
This man is later revealed to be Dr. Cyril Matip, a scientist from Cameroon. The flashback establishes that the secret society now hunting his formula in 1925 has been operating for years and was responsible for the death of Bundle’s own father, who was apparently involved in the same clandestine world.
Bundle Infiltrates the Political Summit at Wyvern Abbey
Armed with the intelligence from the secret meeting, Bundle learns that government official George Lomax is hosting an important political gathering at Wyvern Abbey. She cleverly maneuvers her way into an invitation by suggesting her mother, Lady Caterham, could advise on the event’s etiquette.
Lomax visits Chimneys and explains the summit’s true purpose to Lady Caterham. The Prime Minister has organized it to secure an exclusive deal with Dr. Matip for his groundbreaking invention: a formula to create nearly indestructible steel. Lomax admits he has already received a threatening letter from Seven Dials, confirming that foreign powers and this shadowy group are all vying for the technology. Bundle seizes the opportunity, expressing a sudden interest in politics to secure her invite.
At the abbey, the guests include Lomax, the industrialist Oswald Coote and his wife, Bundle’s friend Jimmy Thesiger, and, providing security, Superintendent Battle. Dr. Matip arrives and is recognized as the man from the Ronda flashback. At dinner, he shares his painful history, explaining he was educated in Germany and, like many Africans, was forced to fight for European powers in the war, leading to the loss of his family.
To demonstrate his invention, Dr. Matip produces a pocket watch made with his new metal. Oswald Coote fires a shotgun directly at it, and the watch remains almost entirely undamaged, stunning the room. Dr. Matip explains his idealistic goal: to make a material so strong it would render weapons useless and end war.

A Failed Watch and a Third Death
Knowing a member of Seven Dials is among them with orders to steal the formula, Bundle, Jimmy, and Bill devise a plan to guard Dr. Matip’s room through the night. The boys take the first watch, refusing to let Bundle take a turn. Not to be sidelined, Bundle changes into dark clothes and attempts to climb down the ivy outside her window to patrol the grounds.
Her plan fails when she falls into the bushes and is immediately found by Superintendent Battle. He orders her back inside. When Bundle returns to the hall, she finds Jimmy and Bill are no longer at their post guarding Dr. Matip’s door.
Suddenly, shouts and the sounds of a struggle come from a nearby room, followed by two gunshots. Bundle and the other guests rush to the locked door. When they force it open, they find not Dr. Matip, but Jimmy Thesiger lying dead by the window, shot. The body count rises, and the killer remains at large within Wyvern Abbey.
